Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 5, 2023 Journalists Share Posted June 5, 2023 What Happy Valley Races Where Happy Valley Racecourse – Wong Nai Chung Rd, Happy Valley, Hong Kong When Wednesday, June 7, 2023 First Race 6:45pm HKT (8:45pm AEST) Visit Ladbrokes Hong Kong racing is back under lights at Happy Valley Racecourse on Wednesday evening for a blockbuster nine-race program. The rail is in the A Position for the meeting, and although the surface is listed in the Firm range at the time of writing, the forecast does appear to suggest some rain will hit the course on race-day, which could see a downgrade into the Good region. The first race is scheduled for 6:45pm HKT (8:45pm AEST). Best Bet: Red Elysees We don’t usually head to Class 5 races for our best bet when it comes to Hong Kong racing; however, we simply had to make the exception for Red Elysees. This 10-year-old gelding just continues to revel in his racing, and despite not reaping the rewards in terms of wins, connections have netted over 1.5 million Australian dollars in his 86-start career. He finds himself back into Class 5 company for just the second time and his latest effort at Sha Tin on May 13 showed he still has plenty left to give. He was cast three-wide no cover the entirety of the 1800m on that occasion, but still fought back to run into second behind Pakistan Friend, who subsequently went on to score again in Class 4. The form is solid and now with the key booking of Zac Purton on board, we’re confident Red Elysees can gain its long awaited sixth victory in the Happy Valley opener. Best Bet Race 1 – #1 Red Elysees (6) 10yo Gelding | T: Manfred Man | Zac Purton (61kg) Bet with Unibet Next Best: Seasons Wit We head to the penultimate race on the program as Seasons Wit will be trying to make it back-to-back wins for the Jamie Richards barn. This son of Capitalist broke his Hong Kong maiden last start at this course and distance on May 24 and whilst it may not have been visually impressive, we think this three-year-old gelding still has plenty of upside remaining in this campaign. He half-missed the start before gaining the better of his rivals, going on to score with a short head on the line. Zac Purton elects to stick and from the barrier one should get very possible chance to stalk his opposition on the rail, before peeling off and hopefully proving too good against a very similar field to his latest sucess. Next Best Race 8 – #6 Seasons Wit (1) 3yo Gelding | T: Jamie Richards | J: Zac Purton (56kg) Bet with Betfair Best Value: Happy Gathering Happy Gathering will be heading back to Class 5 for the fourth time in his career on Wednesday and should be a terrific each-way bet with online bookmakers. He’s a two-time winner in Hong Kong and always seems to find his best with the heavy weight on his back in this grade. The last time he was at this level came on February 22 running second behind Raging Blaze, finishing less than a length away. We’re happy to take him on that effort and with Hugh Bowman hopping aboard from the ideal draw, Happy Gathering should only need to be replicating a similar performance to be winning on Wednesday evening.
