Provincial racing heads to Gosford on Thursday afternoon for a competitive eight-race program lined up for punters to sink their teeth into. The rail is out +3m between the 1100m to 300m and sits in the true position for the remainder of the circuit. The course is listed as a Soft 5 currently and we’re expecting it to stay around that range with light showers forecast for race-day. The first race is set to get underway at 12:00pm AEST.

Best Bet at Gosford: Justela

Justela is a terrific bet to kick-off the Gosford program as she looks primed to break her maiden status on Thursday afternoon. She’s a daughter of Odyssey Moon who seemed to relish the step up to 1600m for the first-time last start at Kembla Grange on May 23, chasing home Guzumped into second position. She was forced to cheek off heels at a crucial stage and the winner looks like a very progressive type, so finishing less than two lengths away was a pass mark in our book. She stays at the mile again and from the barrier one should get a soft run throughout the journey. If things go to plan, Justela should only need to be peeling off the back of the leader when hitting the straight, before bolting clear of her rivals.

Best Bet

Race 1 – Silks#6 Justela (1)

4yo Mare | T: Kerry Parker | J: Jason Collett (57kg)

$2.40 with Bet365

Next Best at Gosford: Fourth Spargo

Fourth Spargo is worth forgiving based on her first-up performance from a 17-week spell and we’re confident she can bounce back to winning ways at Gosford. She had zero luck at Hawkesbury on May 18 when getting into a bumping dual with several runners and never really got a fair crack at her rivals turning for home. She was still classy enough to find third position and now with the run under belt, she’ll find great improvement here second-up. She’s drawn barrier one and it wouldn’t shock to see jockey Jay Ford ping the lids and lead this time, taking all luck out of the equation as he did on her debut victory last preparation. Fourth Spargo simply has more upside than most of her opposition and we’d be disappointed if she wasn’t in the finish.

Next Best

Race 2 – Silks#4 Fourth Spargo (1)

3yo Filly | T: Gabrielle Ellis | J: Jay Ford (57kg)

$2.60 with Unibet

Next Best Bet: Mr Kennedy

Mr Kennedy is a lightly-raced six-year-old for the newly appointed Richard Litt barn and will be having his third start of the campaign. His first two starts of the preparation were strong front running efforts – with the latest coming at this course over the 1100m. He was beaten two lengths by an impressive debutant, Ozzmosis, and this time can go one better getting to the 1200m for just the second time of his career. He should be the natural leader in a race that lacks genuine speed on paper, and if Mr Kennedy can pinch a break turning in, he’s going to take a power of beating.

Next Best

Race 4 – Silks#3 Mr Kennedy (4)

6yo Gelding | T: Richard Litt | J: Joshua Parr (59kg)

$2.05 with Palmerbet
