Racing heads back to Royal Randwick this Saturday for a blockbuster 10-race program, and with 132 acceptors for the meeting, it’s sure to be a tricky card to dissect. The rail is out +3m the entire circuit, and with a drying forecast heading into race-day, we’re confident the current Soft 5 surface will be upgraded into the Good range. The first race is set to get underway at 11am AEST.

Bob Charley AO Stakes: Zethus

The Bob Charley AO Stakes is the feature sprint over 1100m, and we’re keen to see Zethus make his return from Queensland. He’s third-up into the preparation after running fourth in the Chief De Beers Handicap at Doomben on May 20 gallant in defeat, beaten less than two lengths behind Mishani Sniper. He was never in major contention when getting dragged back to near-last on that occasion from barrier 10, and this time drawing three should see Zethus gain a much more economical run throughout the 1100m journey. This son of Exceed And Excel is a proven Listed winner in the past and with an ideal speed map seeing him lob just in behind the favorite, Wewillrock, Zethus should get every chance to find career win number four.

Best Bet: Kibou

Kibou is set to make his much-anticipated return to racing after a 287-day spell and we see no reason why he can’t return as a winner. His previous campaign saw him beating some of the best three-year-olds in the country – including the likes of Golden Mile and Osipenko before suffering a set-back which forced this gelding by Maurice to the paddock. He’s had two impressive barrier trials heading into this first-up assignment and Kibou doesn’t seem to have missed a beat. He’s won both his jump-outs with a sense of authority and despite the fact he’ll need to carry the hefty weight of 60.5kg in BM78 company on Saturday, he looks supremely placed by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott. He clearly possesses the most upside of this field and although some key rivals have a fitness edge, we still expect Kibou to lead and kick clear of his opposition turning for home.

Next Best: Ozzmosis

We were taken with what we saw on debut from Ozzmosis and we’re confident he can make it back-to-back wins to kick-off the program. This two-year-old broke through on the first time of asking at Gosford on May 25 and couldn’t have been more impressive in his maiden success. He sat behind the leader Mr Kennedy throughout the trip and when the rail opened to his inside powered through under James McDonald to score by two lengths, going away from them in the process. This is a much tougher task for this son of Zoustar but with a nice swing in the weights courtesy of the Dylan Gibbons 1.5kg claim, we think Ozzmosis can be more than competitive heading to Randwick on Saturday.

Best Value: Polly Grey

We can’t let Polly Grey go around at $51 with online bookmakers and not make it the best each-way shout on Saturday afternoon. She’s set to resume from a 166-day spell after competing in Group 1 company across the ditch in New Zealand running third in the Zabeel Classic at Pukekohe on December 26. She comes out of strong form races from the spring here in Australia as well – including The Group 3 Angst Stakes behind Hope In Your Heart and Kirwan’s Lane in the Group 2 Ingham Stakes. She’s a very honest type and you know exactly what you’re going to get from this well-raced eight-year-old. Amy McLucas takes the reins for the Chris Waller camp and will be given the instructions to lead throughout the 1600m before edging away from them at some stage. She’s well placed despite the big weight and on the each-way basis, we’re happy to be with her in the Open Handicap.
