Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 9, 2023 Journalists Share Posted June 9, 2023 What Swan Hill Cup Day 2023 Where Swan Hill Jockey Club – 17 Gray St, Swan Hill VIC 3585 When Sunday, June 11, 2023 First Race 11:40am AEST Visit Ladbrokes The Swan Hill Racing Carnival comes to a close for another year with a nine-part program for Swan Hill Cup Day. Despite no rain being forecast over the weekend, we do not expect to be racing on a track any firmer than a Soft 6, with the track being rated a Heavy 8 prior to the three-day meeting commencing. The rail sticks to the true position once again, but we expect runners to be fanning wide in the home straight to try and find the better going as the day goes on. Swan Hill Cup Top Tip – Packing Waltham The Swan Hill Cup run over 1600m is worth $175,000 and following an encouraging first-up performance off a two-year spell, the ex-Hong Kong galloper, Packing Waltham looks the one to beat. The six-year-old gelded son of Wootton Bassett finished third when beaten a half-length over the Flemington 1400m on May 13 which should only bring him on for this assignment. He gave his rivals a big start and rattled off some nice late sectionals to go close to an unlikely win. Barrier 14 is offset by the fact he likes to get back and run on and with this set to be run at genuine clip, we’re hoping Packing Waltham can absorb that pressure and unleash a strong turn of foot and bring up a maiden Australian win. Swan Hill Cup Race 8 – #4 Packing Waltham (14) 6yo Gelding | T: Ben & JD Hayes | J: Daniel Stackhouse (55.5kg) $5.50 with Palmerbet Best Bet at Swan Hill – Cosmic Enigma The Richard Cully-trained Cosmic has been a constant bridesmaid throughout his career finishing second at four of his five starts, but we anticipate Sunday will be the day he breaks through. The three-year-old gelding managed to finish under two lengths behind Oceans Above at Flemington on May 13 when making up a stack of ground in a much harder race than what he faces at Swan Hill. John Allen hops back on board and if he can settle one or two pairs closer to the speed then he has at previous starts, Cosmic Enigma has the best finishing burst in the field and should ultimately make him too hard to hold out. Best Bet Race 2 – #3 Cosmic Enigma (10) 3yo Gelding | T: Richard Cully | J: John Allen (59.5kg) $2.05 with Neds Next Best at Swan Hill – Wuddzz We were with the Henry Dwyer-trained Wuddzz when he was beaten as a short-price favourite at Cranbourne on May 26, but we are happy to side with him once again. The five-year-old gelding was a dominant winner over the 2350m on a Heavy 9 at Warrnambool the start prior and if he brings that type of effort on Sunday, he will be hard to beat. Jye McNeil hops on board and considering this bloke drops 4kg from his last start failure, we expect to see him hitting the line with great intent at the end of 2400m and Wuddzz should be returning to the winner’s stall. Next Best Race 5 – #5 Wuddzz (7) 5yo Gelding | T: Henry Dwyer | J: Jye McNeil (55kg) $3.70 with Ladbrokes Sunday quaddie tips for Swan Hill Swan Hill quadrella selections Sunday, June 11, 2023 1-3-7-9 1-4-8-9 2-3-4 1-2-8-11-12 Investment: $240 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
