Juddmonte's reigning Eclipse Award-winning sprinter ELITE POWER (h, 5, Curlin–Broadway's Alibi, by Vindication) got the graded stakes portion of the Belmont S. program off on a highly formful note, powering to the front in upper stretch before running out the easiest kind of winner in Saturday's GII True North S. The six runners were away in a good line, and when they sorted themselves out, the rail-drawn Today's Flavor (Laoban) showed the way at an easy tempo in advance of the well-backed second favorite and 'TDN Rising Star' Strobe (Into Mischief) as Elite Power settled back in fourth. The half-mile was up in a very modest :46.12, and Strobe was first to take a crack at the pacesetter as they neared the stretch, but Elite Power, in range throughout, was asked to come after that one a furlong and a half from the wire, opened up at will and was taken in hand late before stopping the clock in an ultimately slick 1:15.65 for the 6 1/2 furlongs. The 3-4 post-time jolly, Elite Power was having his first start since posting an impressive 3 1/4-length success in the G3 Riyadh Dirt Sprint in February. Sales history: $900,000 Ylg '19 KEESEP. O-Juddmonte; B-Alpha Delta Stables LLC (KY); T-Bill Mott.
