Happy Valley racing tips

What Happy Valley Races
Where Happy Valley Racecourse – Wong Nai Chung Rd, Happy Valley, Hong Kong
When Wednesday, June 14, 2023
First Race 6:45pm HKT (8:45pm AEST)

Visit Ladbrokes

Happy Valley is the destination for Hong Kong racing this Wednesday as the city circuit hosts a nine-race program under lights. It seems the downpour of rain we got on Sunday evening is set to continue with the forecast predicting more rain and even some thunderstorms throughout the week. The rail is out in the B position for the meeting, and it looks like we’ll be racing on yielding conditions. The first race is scheduled to get underway at 6:45pm HKT (8:45pm AEST).

Best Bet: Howdeepisyourlove

Howdeepisyourlove has been a model of consistency in this preparation for the John Size camp and is looking for career win number five on Wednesday night. The son of Deep Field has continued to elevate through the grades despite the handicapper hitting him with a total of 41 rating points this campaign. It’s easy to see why as he’s only missed the frame once in his 10 career starts since November. The 1200m at Happy Valley seems to be his sweet spot and finds another manageable task on Wednesday night, this time with New Zealand hoop Michael Dee set to take the reins for the first time. He should be somewhere mid-field on a moderate tempo and provided Howdeepisyourlove still has more to give this time in, he should take a power of beating.

Next Best: Dancing Code

Dancing Code is set to have his third start since arriving in Hong Kong from Australia, and the Caspar Fownes barn seems to have this four-year-old travelling beautifully. His two runs so far at Sha Tin have been outstanding, seeing him run into second position by less than a length in both performances. His latest effort over the 1200m at Sha Tin on May 28 was unfortunate not to be a winning one, chasing home Bundle Of Charm on a very slow tempo. He now finds himself at Happy Valley for the first time and although that’s an obvious question mark, the way Dancing Code has acclimatised to Hong Kong racing, we’re happy to the risk.

Next Best Again: Multisuper

Multisuper has been costly for backers with five starts in Hong King and yet to find the winner’s enclosure; however, we think that all changes when heading to Happy Valley. The front-running style of this three-year-old by Vancouver should suit the conditions on offer, and from the soft barrier (1) should find himself in front a long way out. Whether or not he can hold off his rivals for the duration of the 1200m trip is the only concern, but with the in-form Lyle Hewitson picking up the ride, we think Multisuper can kick clear to score a much-deserved victory.
