Provincial racing heads to Wyong on Thursday afternoon for a competitive eight-race program set for decision. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit for the meeting, and although the surface is listed as a Soft 6 at the time of writing, we’re expecting a significant upgrade prior to the first race kicking off at 12:05pm AEST.

Best Bet: Mr Kennedy

It’s incredible to think Mr Kennedy is still looking to break his maiden status heading into Thursday, but we’re confident this lightly raced six-year-old can finally get the job done. He should’ve won with even running last start when going down by a nose to Never Never Land at Gosford on June 8, but just never got the breaks after missing the start. He was forced back into an unfamiliar roll of chasing rather than leading, and although he handled himself admirably, this son of Fastnet Rock is much better when ridden up on speed. Jockey Joshua Parr has the task of getting Mr Kennedy to ping the lids this time around, and if he can find the rail early in the contest, he’s going to take plenty of catching.

Next Best: Highway Patrol

We’ve been highly anticipating the first-up placement of Highway Patrol and we’re happy to be tipping him on debut. This three-year-old gelding by Pariah has been trialing in outstanding fashion heading into this assignment and we were taken with both efforts – particularly his latest jump-out at Hawkesbury on May 22. He led them up and continued to score in the trial under his own steam and that’s exactly what we expect him to try and do on Thursday. Mitchell Bell takes the reins from barrier five you’d imagine will look to lead throughout the 1350m journey, and although he lacks race-day fitness apposed to some of his key rivals, we think Highway Patrol can show his class to score a debut victory.

Next Best Again: Acceber

It’s been a long preparation for Acceber but we think it’s about time he picked up his second career win. He’s been running into some quality opposition and last start was no exception when finding third position behind Grebeni at Rosehill on June 3. He chased home gallantly but ran into a very progressive stayer in BM72 company, and now he looks beautifully placed in this Class 1. The 2100m should prove beneficial and from the soft draw (3) should be finding a more positive run in transit this time. Trainer Kerry Parker has got Acceber going extremely well without winning – we’re hopeful that changes on Thursday and at a nice price with online bookmakers.
