The Listed Waroa-Belmont Guineas headlines the action at Perth’s Belmont Park Racecourse this Saturday afternoon. The track is currently rated a Soft 6 and there isn’t much hope for the track to get any firmer with rain forecast on Friday. The rail will go back into the true position for the entire circuit, giving every runner a fair chance to win. The first of nine races at Belmont will jump at 11:59am AWST.

Waroa-Belmont Guineas Tip: Vast Art

The feature race of the day will see the main market elects from the Listed Raconteur Stakes two weeks ago meet again. After taking out that race, we will be siding with the Darren McAuliffe-trained Vast Art as he seeks his fifth win in six starts this preparation. Of the 11 runners in the field, this three-year-old gelding is the only one to have won at the track and distance, while he is one of only three runners to have won over 1600m in their career. Last start this son of Flying Artie proved too good at the end of 1400m for Rusty Dreams and the fast-finishing Upper Limits. With that win over his rivals and his superior form at 1600m, it is hard to go past Vast Art and Clint Johnston-Porter – who are unbeaten from three starts together.

Best Bet at Belmont: Princess Lacillia

Princess Lacillia kicked off her career in the best way possible last start, with a dominant 1.8-length victory at Belmont over 1200m on June 7. The Grant & Alana Williams-trained two-year-old filly was heavily backed on debut from an opening price of $2.50 to $2.05 at the time of the jump, and she duly saluted for her followers in fine style. There, this daughter of Universal Ruler jumped from barrier six and settled outside the leader before taking over and kicking clear early in the home straight to win eased down. William Pike will retain the ride after steering her on debut, which indicates that he has a good opinion of the horse. From barrier five, we should see Pike push forward and settle in the first two, trying to replicate the debut victory.

Next Best at Belmont: Duchess Of Gossip

Duchess Of Gossip from the Dion Luciani stable broke her maiden two starts back at Northam, winning by 2.8 lengths over 1300m, before getting up the inside of Fearless Talk to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in the final stride over 1400m at Belmont last start. This daughter of All American has shown in her four starts to date that she can perform when sitting on-speed or running on from mid-field or worse, which gives her a tactical advantage over her rivals. Brad Parnham will partner this filly for the fourth start in a row, seeking his third win on her. If Parnham can settle mid-field off the rail and then make his move on the home turn, she should prove too good for her rivals in the concluding stages of the race.

Best Value at Belmont: Vane Tempest

We will be hoping to blast out in the last with Vane Tempest from the Takahide Ikenushi yard, who is coming off a very close second behind Rokanori when second-up this preparation. At her last start, this daughter of Snippetson settled in the last two before making a long, searching run around the outside to challenge the winner in the final 50m but was beaten by a fitter horse on the day. With the five-year-old mare turning in a very nice effort second-up, she should be ready to peak third-up at the same distance and in conditions that she enjoys, recording four wins and two placings from 11 starts on Soft ground. Clint Johnston-Porter will retain the ride as he seeks his second win from eight races on this girl. There appears to be an abundance of speed in the race, which should set it up for Vane Tempest to run home strongly down the outside.
