Bendigo racing preview

What Bendigo Races
Where Bendigo Jockey Club – Heinz St, White Hills VIC 3550
When Sunday, June 18, 2023
First Race 11:50am AEST

Visit Ladbrokes

The Bendigo Jockey Club is set to host a competitive eight-race program on Sunday afternoon, with the track rated a Heavy 8 at the time of acceptances. Following a fair amount of traffic on the inside portion of the track, the rail comes out 8m the entire circuit, which suggests being on-speed will be no disadvantage. Racing is set to commence at 11:50am AEST.

Best Bet at Bendigo – Unowho

In the opener, the Chris Waller-trained Unowho is looking to reverse a poor effort at Mornington last time out. The two-year-old gelding was convincingly beaten as favourite in a three-horse field when simply outsprinted when the heat went on. From barrier two under John Allen, the bigger track at Bendigo should see this bloke given every opportunity to break his maiden at start three. He looks to better than maiden company, and if Unowho can string it all together third-up into his initial campaign, he should prove too hard to beat.

Best Bet

Race 1 – Silk #3 Unowho (2)

2yo Gelding | T: Chris Waller | J: John Allen (58kg)

$2.70 with Palmerbet

Next Best at Bendigo – Miss Take

First-up for the Anthony & Sam Freedman yard, we expect ex-Kiwi Miss Take to prove too speedy for her rivals in the opening leg of the quaddie. The three-year-old filly showed plenty on debut on the Riccarton synthetic in August last year, before going on to be competitive in Stakes company at her next start. She has warmed up for this assignment with a quiet trial at Moe when finishing second. Apprentice Luke Campbell should look to use her early speed from barrier nine and make full use of his 2kg claim. If the pair can find the rail without using up too much gas, Miss Take will have her rivals chasing 200m out.

Next Best

Race 5 – Silk #3 Miss Take (9)

3yo Filly | T: Anthony & Sam Freedman | J: Luke Campbell (a2) (60.5kg)

$3.60 with Neds

Best Value at Bendigo – Spanish Snitzel

Spanish Snitzel was an impressive winner at Swan Hill on June 9, and on the quick seven-day backup he looks a great value play. The five-year-old gelding enjoyed taking a sit off a strong tempo on a Soft 7 and powered home over his rivals late. He is a genuine mudder with four wins and four minor placings on rain-affected ground, and with race fitness on his side he should be the one running home the best. Despite going up 5kg, the drop back to BM64 grade looks ideal for Spanish Snitzel.

Best Value

Race 7 – Silk #8 Spanish Snitzel (5)

5yo Gelding | T: Con Kelly | J: Madison Lloyd (60.5kg)

$8.50 with Ladbrokes
