Sale Racecourse is the destination for racing in Victoria on Thursday afternoon, with a competitive nine-race program set down for decision on a Heavy 9. The rail comes out 8m the entire circuit, and with deteriorating track conditions expected on raceday, it should prove to be no disadvantage to be up on speed. The first race is set to jump at 12:25pm AEST.

Best Bet at Sale: Dunalley

The David Brideoake & Matt Jenkins-trained Dunalley had the race shot to pieces last time out at the Sale 1736m, before peaking on her run 150m out from home. We are confident she can go a couple better from that third-placed effort on a Soft 7. She looks ready to win third-up from her spell, and if the four-year-old mare replicates the turn of foot she showed when hitting the front close to home, her race fitness and touch of consistency this preparation will take her a long way. Matt Cartwright will look to have her settled midfield in the moving line, and if the pair can find clear air at a crucial point, Dunalley should be pulling away from her rivals late.

Best Bet

Race 5 – Silks#5 Dunalley (8)

Next Best Bet at Sale: Kessler

We will be hoping it is a successful day for the Brideoake & Jenkins barn as Kessler looks to break his maiden at start three. The three-year-old was not beaten far when finishing second at both of his starts to date, and on similarly wet tracks to what he faces on Thursday. The gelded son of Good Journey takes luck out of equation by racing up on speed, and the five-week freshen between runs should see him champing at the bit third-up. If Beau Mertens can pinch a cheap sectional or two in front, Kessler has race fitness on his side and should prove too hard to catch for this lot.

Next Best

Race 3 – Silks#2 Kessler (4)

3yo Gelding | T: David Brideoake & Matt Jenkins | J: Beau Mertens (58kg)

Best Value at Sale: Boschendal

Boschendal was first-up after two years away from racing when forced to chase in the slower part of the track at Sale over 1419m. That was clearly a run to blow out the cobwebs, so he should produce a much more competitive effort second-up. The five-year-old has a second to his name when competing with a run under his belt, and considering the races he was competitive in prior to that layoff, we expect to see a forward performance from Boschendal.

Best Value

Race 8 – Silks#6 Boschendal (4)

5yo Gelding | T: Greg Eurell | J: Dylan Turner (58kg)
