Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 22, 2023 Journalists Share Posted June 22, 2023 What Belmont Races Where Belmont Park Racecourse – Saintly Entrance, Burswood WA 6100 When Saturday, June 24, 2023 First Race 11:59am AWST Visit Ladbrokes The Western Australian Turf Club will host a very competitive nine-race card out of Belmont Racecourse this Saturday afternoon. The track is currently rated a Soft 6, but with more rain on the forecast for Friday and Saturday, we don’t expect the track to get any better than the current rating. The rail will be pushed out to the +2m position from the true position that it was in last Saturday, with racing set to commence at 11:59am AWST. Best Bet at Belmont – A Lot Of Good Men We are more than happy to play in the opening race of the day when the Trevor Andrews-trained A Lot Of Good Men returns to the racetrack after a four-month spell. This two-year-old colt ended his second racing preparation with a fourth-place finish in the Restricted Listed WA Magic Millions at Pinjarra Park on February 18, after winning his second and third start. This son of A Lot has only finished out of the placings once during his short career, and his form is far better form than any of the rivals that he will meet on Saturday. Due to his superior form, this colt will have to carry the extra weight of 59.5kg, but he has proven that he is good enough to carry 58kg over slightly further last time in, so we don’t see it as a negative. Paul Harvey has ridden A Lot Of Good Men at all four of his starts, and he will join him once again this weekend. Best Bet Race 1 – #1 A Lot Of Good Men (5) 2yo Colt | T: Trevor Andrews | J: Paul Harvey (59.5kg) $3.10 with Bet365 Next Best at Belmont – Sisu Warrior After two very close runner-up finishes to start this preparation, Sisu Warrior finally broke through for his second career victory over 1400m at Pinjarra last start, defeating What A Prince by just under a length. William Pike gave this three-year-old gelding an economical run and settled in the one-one before pulling out on the home turn and challenging the leaders. Once this son of Gold Standard got to the lead, he never looked like losing, as he held off a marginal challenge from the eventual runner-up over the final 150m. With Pike sticking on Saturday, we expect him to push forward and find the back of the leading duo – who are drawn outside of him – attempting to replicate his last start win. Sisu Warrior broke his maiden on a Heavy 10, so no matter what the track is rated, it shouldn’t worry him. Next Best Race 7 – #11 Sisu Warrior (8) 3yo Gelding | T: Grant & Alana Williams | J: William Pike (54kg) $3.70 with Neds Best Value at Belmont – Sneaky Chance Our value play of the day on Saturday is aptly named, as we believe that Sneaky Chance has exactly that in the penultimate race of the day. At her last start, this four-year-old mare settled in behind the leaders before the home turn, and as the field entered the home straight a gap appeared for her to run through. Even though the daughter of I’m All The Talk died on her run with 100m to go, she will be hard fit for her fourth run this time in and will enjoy the cut out of the ground on a Soft track. Shaun O’Donnell has ridden this mare 11 times for four wins and three placings, so with him on board we can trust him to get her into the right place and have her settled nicely. With a lot of speed in this race, we expect Sneaky Chance to settle near the back of the field and run home down the outside to play a prominent role in the finish.
