Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 23, 2023 Journalists Posted June 23, 2023 Jareth Loveberry, who has ridden GI Kentucky Derby runner-up Two Phil's (Hard Spun) in all but one of his nine career starts, has had to take off the mount for Saturday's GIII Ohio Derby, reports his agent Steve Leving. Leving said that Gerardo Corrales has picked up the mount for trainer Larry Rivelli. Leving said Loveberry's problems began when the jockey was working a horse for trainer Jason Barkley. The horse stumbled and rolled over on him, but there were no fractures and, initially, Loveberry thought he would be able to keep riding. That changed Wednesday night when Loveberry traveled to Canterbury Park, where he was booked to ride in five stakes races. He got through the first four but was not able to ride in the fifth, the Canterbury Derby. “We don't know the entirety of it yet,” Leving said. “He has to see a doctor and he is in a lot of pain. After he took off the last mount at Canterbury they put him in an ambulance, gave him an IV and took him to a local hospital. He's back home now and is going to see a doctor to figure out the severity of the injury. That he's not riding Two Phil's tells you it's not good, that this is serious. It could be a pectoral tear and that takes months to heal.” Corrales rode Two Phil's in his first career start, finishing fifth in a maiden race at Churchill Downs. Loveberry was the leading rider at Arlington Park in 2020 and 2021.
