Happy Valley racing tips

What Happy Valley Races
Where Happy Valley Racecourse – Wong Nai Chung Rd, Happy Valley, Hong Kong
When Wednesday, June 28, 2023
First Race 6:45pm HKT (8:45pm AEST)

Visit Ladbrokes

Hong Kong racing returns under lights at Happy Valley for a loaded nine-race program this Wednesday. The rail is in the C position for the evening, and we’ll be cautious of a track downgrade with plenty of thunderstorms predicted in the lead-up. The first race is set to get underway at 6:45pm HKT (8:45pm AEST).

Best Bet: Swan Bay

Swan Bay made an impressive return at Sha Tin on June 18 and arguably should’ve won, checking off heels before tracking the eventual winner into the race. He missed out by a nose at a big price with online bookmakers, outrunning his quote to find his first minor placing since arriving in Hong Kong. The 2200m at Happy Valley shouldn’t be a problem for this gelding by Australia, and now with a fitness run under his belt, Swan Bay should be right in the finish again.

Next Best: Denfield

Denfield is unfortunate to remain a maiden galloper and doesn’t look far away from breaking his duck. In his latest effort at this course and distance, he hit the front a long way out after being cast wide throughout, just getting nosed out by Flaming Passion. He did all the work and deserves some luck with excuses in most of his six career starts. Drawn in barrier eight with Vincent Ho on board, Denfield will only need to find a slot in somewhere mid-field with cover to be powering home again – hopefully this time to victory.

Best Value: Pegasus Hero

Pegasus Hero heads to a Class 4 for the first time in his 10 Hong Kong starts to date and finds his best opportunity to break his HK maiden. He has been plagued by horrid barriers until his last start over the 1800m on June 7, where he made steady ground up the inside running rail from barrier two. We’re looking at that effort as a glorified barrier trial, and although he must carry the hefty 61kg on his back, it’s a great opportunity to finally see the best of this six-year-old. With a big price likely with the top betting sites, Pegasus Hero should only need to find the minor placings for a nice return.
