Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 28, 2023 Journalists Share Posted June 28, 2023 What Flemington Finals Day Where Flemington Racecourse – 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington VIC 3031 When Saturday, July 1, 2023 First Race 11:50am AEST Visit Ladbrokes It is Flemington Finals Day on Saturday afternoon with a stacked nine-race program set down for decision. The Listed Winter Championship Final takes centre stage, supported by the Taj Rossi Final, AR Creswick Stakes and VIC Sprint Series Final. The track has come up a Soft 7, while the rail returns to the true position. Finals Day at Flemington is set to get underway at 11:50am AEST. Winter Championship Final Top Tip – Unusual Culture At $5.50 the field with online bookmakers, there looks to be some nice value about Unusual Culture in the 1600m feature. The four-year-old mare has won four of her last six starts this time in, including a strong victory at the track and trip on June 17. Carleen Hefel had her lobbed in a perfect position on that day, and the pair look to gain a similarly perfect run in transit this weekend. With even luck at the right time of the home straight, Unusual Culture will take some beating once again. Winter Championship Final Race 8 – #12 Unusual Culture (3) 4yo Mare | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Carleen Hefel (54kg) $8 with Boombet Taj Rossi Final Top Tip – Steparty The Listed Taj Rossi Final looks to be a one-act affair, with Paul Preusker’s Steparty a $1.45 favourite. The two-year-old colt has strung together three straight wins, including two jaw-dropping performances at Flemington. Dean Yendall will have this bloke stalking the speed throughout from barrier three. He looks every part a Group 1-calibre horse and should prove too classy for his rivals here. Taj Rossi Final Race 3 – #1 Steparty (3) 2yo Colt | T: Paul Preusker | J: Dean Yendall (59.5kg) $1.45 with Palmerbet AR Creswick Stakes Top Tip – Legio Ten Godolphin’s Legio Ten has returned a different horse this preparation. The three-year-old returned with a dominant win at Bendigo on May 17 and then saluted in smart fashion at the Flemington 1100m on June 3. He travelled in the slower section of the track on that day, but his class shone through to get the job done – albeit narrowly. From an inside draw once again, Ben Melham will need to be patient aboard the son of Exosphere, but this guy’s turn of foot is more than good enough to overcome the sticky barrier draw. AR Creswick Stakes Race 5 – #5 Legio Ten (2) 3yo Gelding | T: James Cummings | J: Ben Melham (58kg) $5.50 with Unibet VIC Sprint Series Final Top Tip – Sigh The Peter Moody-trained Sigh has won both starts this campaign and comes to the Listed VIC Sprint Series Final as the one to beat. She had to dig deep to hold off the Group 1-placed General Beau down the Flemington straight over 1100m on June 17, but she will be fitter for that as she steps up to the 1200m. Carleen Hefel will have the mare settled just off the speed, and if she is anywhere near her best, Sigh should be making punters pretty happy on Saturday. VIC Sprint Series Final Race 7 – #7 Sigh (6) 4yo Mare | T: Peter Moody | J: Carleen Hefel (55kg) $4.60 with Ladbrokes Best Bet at Flemington – Pacific Ruby Pacific Ruby has strung together five straight wins across three campaigns and strikes yet another winnable race at Flemington. The mare returned with a smart victory at Sandown on June 6 and managed to get the better of He’s Our Bonneval and Barbie’s Fox. From barrier one, Matt Cartwright should have her lobbed in prime position just off the leaders’ heels. Pacific Ruby will need luck in the home straight, but if she sees clear air, her turn of foot should be more than enough to account for a field like this. Best Bet Race 2 – #2 Pacific Ruby (1) 4yo Mare | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Matt Cartwright (59kg) $2.70 with Bet365 Best Value at Flemington – Mimi’s Award Mimi’s Award was first past the post in the corresponding race last year but lost it on protest. The five-year-old mare is as consistent a stayer as you could ask for and loves wetter decks. She was a touch disappointing at Sandown on June 10, but her win at Flemington over 2500m prior to that suggests a race like this is well within her grasp. If she gets a genuinely run 2600m, this daughter of Shamus Award will be the one finishing off best. Best Value Race 4 – #9 Mimi’s Award (10) 5yo Mare | T: Ben & JD Hayes | J: Daniel Stackhouse (54kg) $9.50 with Betfair Saturday quaddie tips for Flemington Flemington quadrella selections Saturday, July 1, 2023 1-2-5-6 3-7-9 1-3-6-7-12-13 1-2-3-4-9 Investment: $360 for 100% Latest horse racing tips View the full article
