What Kensington Races

When Wednesday, July 5, 2023
First Race 12:50pm AEST

Visit Ladbrokes

Racing heads to the Kensington course at Royal Randwick on Wednesday afternoon for an ultra-competitive seven-race program. The rail sits in the true position throughout the circuit, and although the track is listed as a Good 4 at the time of writing, a rainy forecast for Tuesday evening means we’re prepared for a downgrade into the Soft range. The first race is scheduled for 12:50pm AEST.

Best Bet: Pereille

Pereille has been a frustrating prospect for followers, finishing in the minor money in all six of his career starts. His latest barrier trial at Hawkesbury on June 19 was breathtaking as he powered to the line under a stranglehold from jockey Zac Lloyd, who provides his services again this week. This race is the last chance for Pereille before he goes in the ‘forget file’, but we don’t think he’ll disappoint punters this time.

Next Best: Passeggiata

Passeggiata returned on June 10 at Randwick and scored a soft half-length win at BM78 level, leading all the way under jockey Dylan Gibbons. This three-year-old filly only knows one way, and that’s to burn the candle at both ends, so look for a similar performance as Gibbons takes Passeggiata straight to the front again. She carries 59kg after the apprentice’s claim but, as the class horse in the field, looks more than ready for this second-up assignment.

Next Best Again: The Replicant

The Replicant looks ready to peak third-up, coming here on the one-week backup for Jospeh Pride. His run at Warwick Farm on June 28 had plenty of merit when forced three wide without cover throughout the 1400m. He was still hanging on gamely to finish less than three lengths off Sirens Star, and with a better run in transit, this son of Tavaci would most likely have finished in the frame. Joshua Parr takes the reins for the first time, and with more luck from barrier six, The Replicant should be powering down the middle of the course late in the afternoon to score.
