Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 14, 2023 Journalists Share Posted July 14, 2023 What Sha Tin Races Where Sha Tin Racecourse – Tai Po Rd, Sha Tin District, Hong Kong When Sunday, July 16, 2023 First Race 4pm HKT (6pm AEST) Visit Ladbrokes Racing heads to Hong Kong for the final time this season with Sha Tin hosting a terrific 11-race program to finish the 2022/23 campaign. The rail sits in the A position for the meeting, and although there are some showers predicted, we’re confident it shouldn’t affect the Good surface expected for race-day. The first race is set to get underway at 4pm HKT (6pm AEST). Best Bet: Packing Bole Packing Bole produced one of the most impressive Hong Kong debut wins of the season when stepping out at this course and distance on June 18. The Danny Shum-trained gelding went straight to the front under Zac Purton and proceeded to put away his rivals under a strangle hold throughout the 1200m Class 4 contest. He now makes the step-up to Class 3 company for the first time and shouldn’t have any issues replicating his first-up effort despite the wide draw (14). 53kg on his back courtesy of Matthew Poon and Packing Bole should give followers a massive sight turning for home on Sunday. He has some horrible barrier manners; however, has all the ability of a quality galloper in the making, which he showed last start when clearing out on his opposition to score a 2.8-length victory. He’s well-weighted here with 55.5kg on his back, and with Zac Purton electing to stick with this progressive three-year-old, Simple Hedge only needs to break evenly from the gates to be considered the one to beat. Next Best Race 10 – #4 Simple Hedge (8) 3yo Gelding | T: John Size | J: Zac Purton (55.5kg) Bet with Ladbrokes Best Value: Packing Succeeder Packing Succeeder dropped in grade at Happy Valley last start and we consider him a good thing beaten on that occasion. He was set to power through a gap that appeared with 400m to go but got poleaxed by Turquoise Alpha who went on to win the race on June 28. When recovered, Packing Succeeder gathered himself nicely to finish in sixth position 2.8 lengths away. The margin wasn’t indicative of the result, and we think with clear running this gelding by Pins would’ve been right in the finish. The 1800m looks ideal as he heads to Sha Tin for the first time and with even luck, Packing Succeeder can make amends for punters at a good price with online bookmakers.
