Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted September 30, 2018 Journalists Share Posted September 30, 2018 VALE DORI (ARG) (m, 6, Asiatic Boy {Arg}–Valerina {Arg}, by Halo Sunshine) took advantage of a dull effort from 1-9 favorite Abel Tasman (Quality Road) and forged to the lead in deep stretch to upset the GI Zenyatta S. Sunday at Santa Anita. Capturing her first Grade I in the GI Santa Margarita S. here last March as part of a six-race winning streak, the bay was beaten a neck by Stellar Wind (Curlin) in both the GI Beholder Mile S. and GI Clement L. Hirsch S. and could make no serious impact in four outings this season, most recently running a distant second in the restricted Tranquility Lake S. last out Aug. 24 at Del Mar. Dismissed at 11-1 in this return to graded company, Vale Dori tracked the pace of a longshot from second through moderate fractions of :23.98 and :48.02. Challenging for the front midway on the far turn as Abel Tasman sputtered, she took over at the eighth pole and kicked away before holding sway from distant second favorite La Force (Ger) (Power {GB}) by a length in the wire in 1:44.88. Abel Tasman finished a non-factor fifth. Lifetime Record: 21-10-6-2, $1,365,567. O-Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum; B-Abolengo (ARG); T-Bob Baffert.
