Scotland (g, 3, Good Magic–Gemswick Park, by Speightstown)'s three prior performances were won or lost by a combined total of about a neck, and the chestnut paternal grandson of the race's namesake produced his largest win margin to date with an easy career-first black-type score in Saratoga's Curlin S. at 2-1. Il Miracolo (Gun Runner) shadowed the winner the way around as 3-5 favorite Blazing Sevens (Good Magic) could only manage a distant third. The final time was 1:49.12. O/B-LNJ Foxwoods; T-Bill Mott.
