The gelded son of Scissor Kick didn’t lead for the first time in his career, but that didn’t stop him from reigning supreme. Sent out as the second favourite behind the in-form Alpha One ($3.10), Giga Kick ($4) and Craig Williams had a job to do in the final stages of the $200,000 race, as the race favourite shot clear on the bend under Damien Lane. It was Giga Kick who got the last laugh though, nailing Alpha One right on the line, while Millane ($9) worked home stylishly into third. 2021: Ingratiating flashes home to claim Vain Stakes Despite giving key market rivals Generation ($2.30) and General Beau ($5.50) a start in the Group 3 Vain Stakes, Ingratiating ($3.20) under Damien Oliver, bloused his rivals in emphatic fashion. First-up from a spell since finishing third in the Golden Slipper, Ingratiating was forced to settle at the rear of the field, having drawn the widest barrier (7) in the seven-horse field. However, that was to be no issue, with the colt showing every bit of his Group 1 potential, going on to claim victory by a length to General Beau, with Generation a further nostril away in third. 2020: Our Playboy causes minor upset Having been sent out as an outsider in a competitive edition of the Vain Stakes, Our Playboy ($13) announced himself as a class sprinting prospect during his three-year-old season. Ridden by Ben Melham, Our Playboy left the likes of Rulership ($2.45) and Hydro Star ($4.80) in his wake as he powered home from the back of the field to win by a length over Ranting ($6). 2019: Bivouac destroys rivals Godolphin’s Bivouac made an emphatic statement when claiming the 2019 Group 3 Vain Stakes. Despite going up against just five rivals, Bivouac ($3) put over four-lengths on Sebrakate ($12), with Dirty Work ($26) an eventual six-lengths off the winner. Bivouac’s performance was his first start under raceday conditions since claiming the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes at Randwick during the previous autumn when getting the better of the class Libertini.
