Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 3, 2023 Journalists Share Posted August 3, 2023 What Missile Stakes Day Where Rosehill Gardens Racecourse – James Ruse Dr, Rosehill NSW 2142 When Saturday, August 5, 2023 First Race 11:30am AEST Visit Ladbrokes Spring racing is almost upon us, signified by the running of the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The sprinting feature is supported by an ultra-competitive 10-race program kicking off at 11:30am AEST. The rail is set back in the true position, while the Good 4 surface listed at the time of writing should hold nicely with no rain on the forecast. Missile Stakes: I Am Me I Am Me is set to resume from a 161-day spell, and after her rise last preparation, it’s easy to why the market is gravitating to the five-year-old mare. Her last campaign culminated on February 25 when she started near-favourite in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate; however, things didn’t go to plan and she finished 2.2 lengths away in seventh after being softened up mid-race on a hectic tempo. With two outstanding barrier trials under her belt, I Am Me will look to make every post a winner in Saturday’s feature. Best Bet Race 8 – #11 I Am Me (1) 5yo Mare | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Tim Clark (54kg) $3.50 with PlayUp Best Bet at Rosehill: Aristonous Aristonous should’ve lost no admirers after his effort at Sandown on July 8. While the 3.2-length margin may appear disappointing to punters that took the short quote, he was given a mighty task from near-last when turning for home. It was a brave effort to finish as close as he did, and coming back to NSW, where the gelding found his previous successes, Aristonous should get a much more positive steer as he chases his third victory of the campaign. Best Bet Race 3 – #5 Aristonous (3) 4yo Gelding | T: Annabel Neasham | J: Jason Collett (59.5kg) $3 with Neds Next Best Bet: Foujita San Foujita San is set to return after a gelding operation and seems to have taken big strides based on his jump-out at Rosehill on July 21. He stormed home in the trial to be beaten by less than a half-length and now finds an ideal first-up assignment. With Brudnell and Time To Boogie setting a genuine gallop, it should allow Foujita San to smoke the pipe in behind the speed from gate seven. Foujita San may have bigger fish to fry this preparation, but there is no reason he can’t knock them off before heading up in grade. Best Bet Race 7 – #8 Foujita San (7) 4yo Gelding | T: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | J: Zac Lloyd (a1.5kg) (57kg) $6.50 with Bet365 Next Best Again: Ausbred Rising Sun Ausbred Rising Sun was thrown in the deep end last preparationm, finding some stiff competition at Group 1 level. He finished last of the eight runners in the Rosehill Guineas behind Lindermann, before once again finding it too tough in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes. This son of Maurice has performed beautifully at the barrier trials, while this is much easier than anything he faced last season.
