Grahame Begg’s Passive Aggressive ($1.90) was all the rage leading into the race and having had a relatively easy lead, it looked like the favourite would be hard to run down on the home turn. However, under the urgings of Jamie Kah, Peter Moody’s Chain Of Lightning showed all of her class when letting down impressively and going past Passive Aggressive in style within the final 100m. Chain Of Lightning put 1.25 lengths on the fast-finishing She’s All Class ($41) and two-lengths on Kissonallforcheeks ($13) in third, with Passive Aggressive a further nose away in fourth. 2021: Probabeel arrives in time Kiwi mare Probabeel made a winning start to her spring campaign when arriving in time to claim the Group 3 Cockram Stakes. Sent off the $1.95 favourite under Damian Lane, Probabeel registered a short-neck win from Chassis ($41) with Instant Celebrity ($4.40) a neck away third. Forced to travel three wide under Damian Lane, Probabeel produced a stunning turn of foot 200m out from home and despite going stride-for-stride with Chassis in the final furlong, Probabeel asserted her class late on and showed why she is deemed one of the best mares in work. 2020: Pike lands Cockram spoils aboard Perfect Jewel William Pike is often a punters pal and the visiting WA hoop sent punters home on a positive note aboard Perfect Jewel. Drawing out in the second-half of the Cockram Stakes field, Pike allowed the early pace to go allowing Perfect Jewel to settle behind that speed. The speed was fast, set by She’s A Thief who rolled along in the lead. Pike timed his run to perfection from the rear of the field before Perfect Jewel descended on the leading group inside the 150m mark and quickly put the 2020 Cockram Stakes away. Perfect Jewel ($14) scored by a length, with Bless Her ($6.50) in second and the same margin back to She Shao Fly ($19) in third. 2019: Pippie runs rivals ragged Pippie is a genuine star on the rise and the mare showed that when claiming the 2019 Cockram Stakes in impressive fashion. The John & Chris Meagher-trained mare managed to lead throughout under the guidance of Ben Melham in a result that signalled bigger and better races are ahead. Pippie was seen by punters as one of the safer bets of the day before the meeting but Meagher said he and his father John were concerned the track may not suit her on-pace style, considering no leader had managed to win until her effort. Pippie, who was backed from $2.15 to $2.05 late, had a length-and-a-quarter margin for Melham over Spanish Whisper ($15), with a short head to Sylvia’s Mother ($4) in third place.
