Visit Ladbrokes

Mid-week metropolitan racing will return to the Sandown Racecourse this Wednesday, as it will host a very competitive eight-race card on the Hillside track. With no rain on the forecast until Wednesday, we expect that the track will stay at the current Good 4 rating, with a chance for a downgrade during the meeting. The rail will go back into the True position for the entire circuit, with racing set to kick off at 12:25pm AEST.

Best Bet at Sandown: Wolfy

Wolfy was very good on debut without much luck for the Nick Ryan yard at Caulfield on July 22. After settling behind the speed, this three-year-old colt had to wait for a run to appear; however, by the time the gap came, the race was all but over and this guy flashed home to finish second – beaten a length. Since that run, the runner that finished eighth (Robrick) has come out and won at his next start at Flemington over 1410m last Saturday. With the form coming out of that race and measuring up at Saturday grade, we expect Wolfy to find the winners circle at his second start with even luck.

Best Bet

Race 1 – silks#12 Wolfy (6)

3yo Colt | T: Nick Ryan | J: Mark Zahra (58kg)

$2.20 with PlayUp

Next Best at Sandown: Nokhbah

The Ben, Will & JD Hayes-trained Nokhbah was way too good for her rivals at Pakenham on the Synthetic track where she settled behind the speed and pulled away late to record a dominant 3.75-length maiden victory. This lightly raced five-year-old mare has only been to the races twice, with her debut second and last start win being her only starts for her career. This daughter of I Am Invincible appears to have a lot of talent and if Billy Egan can get her across the field and into a good position on-speed from barrier 11, Nokhbah should give us a massive sight in the concluding stages of the race.

Next Best

Race 3 – silks#15 Nokhbah (11)

5yo Mare | T: Ben, Will & JD Hayes | J: Billy Egan (57kg)

Best Value at Sandown: Sirius Statement

Sirius Statement returned to the racetrack with a very encouraging third-place finish at Geelong over 1212m on July 30, where this Saab Hasan-trained galloper was slow out of the barriers and settled last, before finishing off strong in the final 200m to only go down by 1.1 lengths behind Girl. On Wednesday, this daughter of Press Statement will meet Girl again, but with the benefit of a 1.5kg weight swing and hopefully a better start, we expect a different result. From barrier three, Dean Yendall will be looking to get this girl to jump well and take up a position just off the speed, before letting down with that blistering turn of foot that she showed last start.

Best Value

Race 8 – silks#12 Sirius Statement (3)

4yo Mare | T: Saab Hasan | J: Dean Yendall (56kg)

$23 with Neds
