The Zoustar filly led the field early on from barrier one under Tim Clark, and despite Willinga Beast ($6.50) laying down the gauntlet in the straight, North Star Lass was able to fight back and win the valuable Group 2 event. Champagne Stakes winner She’s Extreme ($3.70) finished 3.5 lengths away in third, while Paris Dior could only manage fourth ($3.30). 2021: Jamaea comes from the clouds Apprentice Brock Ryan enjoyed one of his biggest thrills in racing when partnering the Robert & Luke Price-trained Jamaea ($21) to victory in the 2021 Furious Stakes. Jamaea made an impressive comeback, finishing fourth behind Swift Witness in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes over 1200m, but under Ryan’s skillful navigation, Jamaea proved her worth by outshining several highly favoured rivals. With strategic planning and excellent timing, Ryan guided Jamaea through the race and got her to the centre of the track when it mattered most. Ryan had clear running room and he set Jamaea after the leaders with the filly showing her race craft and a turn of foot that rapidly closed the margin. Ryan showed just as much race craft ensuring that Jamea’s head was out and low in the final stride and they secured the win. At the line the official margin was a half-head, however, such was Jamaea’s closing speed that her win was better than the margin suggested. 2020: Dame Giselle remains unbeaten Peter & Paul Snowden snared a second win from the past three editions of the Furious Stakes when their undefeated filly Dame Giselle ($3.80) put away a smart field at just her second start. Aided by an expert steer from Tommy Berry, Dame Giselle would go on to beat Hungry Heart ($4.40) and Forbidden Love ($10) in a result that gave Berry a second straight win in the race, having won aboard Libertini in 2019. 2019: Libertini digs deep to salute as favourite Having claimed the Silver Shadow Stakes first-up, the Anthony Cummings-trained Libertini ($1.18) was made to work to claim the Furious Stakes, but showed her class to prevail. Villami ($16) made a race out of it when leading for everywhere bar the winning post, with Tommy Berry needing to lift the long odds-on favourite to victory and add her name to the lineage of horses to complete the Silver Shadow Stakes/Furious Stakes double.
