New Zealand-bred Group One performer Annavisto’s (NZ) (Reliable Man) racing future will be dictated by her first-up performance in the Gr.1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield next month.

The daughter of Reliable Man finished fourth in her 1000m trial at Cranbourne on Monday and trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr said she will take plenty of improvement from her first public hit-out of the new season.

“She had a fair while off, she’s still a bit fat and she had a big blow, she’s trialling again,” Price told Racing.com.

The broodmare paddock is beckoning the six-year-old mare, however, a decision on her future won’t be made until after her run in the Memsie Stakes.

“We’re going to run first-up in the Memsie and we’re not sure if she trains on after that, or depending on her performance, if she goes to stud,” Price said.

“She’s been placed in a Group One over a mile and we’re trying to catch the good Group One horses still having a snooze.

“If we can whip around Caulfield fitter… bit of a Hail Mary job but we’ll have a crack.”

Bred by Greg Tomlinson under his Nearco Stud banner, Annavisto was identified by bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo and purchased out of Tony Pike’s stable in New Zealand after winning a trial at Te Teko in February 2020.

She has gone on to win seven of her 18 starts, including back-to-back Gr.3 Frances Tessady Stakes (1400m), Gr.3 Tony Bourke Memorial (1400m), and Listed Bendigo Guineas (1400m), and was runner-up in the Gr.1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m).
