The 2023 Caulfield Cup nominations were released on Tuesday, with 175 runners in the mix for the $5 million Group 1 on October 21.

As usual, a few world-renowned international trainers have nominated horses for the Caulfield feature, with representatives from New Zealand, Japan, Ireland and England among the list of runners.

The current favourite with most online bookmakers, Without A Fight, tops the list of nominees, ahead of equal-second favourites Kovalica and Sharp ‘N’ Smart.

Legendary Irish horse trainer Aidan O’Brien has nominated 10 runners for the 2400m race, including Adelaide River, Alfred Munnings, Broome, Changingoftheguard, Continuous, Greenland, Luxembourg, Peeking Opera, Point Lonsdale and Tower Of London.

The Japanese Group 2 winner Breakup has been nominated by his trainer, Tatsuya Yoshioka, with the only other Japanese nominee being Win Mighty from the Masato Nishizono yard.

Of the Australian contingent, Chris Waller leads the charge with 19 runners including Queensland Derby winner Kovalica, Moonee Valley Cup winner Francesco Guardi, Rosehill Guineas winner Lindermann, and VRC Derby winner Manzoice.

Interestingly, 2022 Caulfield Cup winner Durston, from the Waller stable, has not been nominated for the 2023 edition and so will not defend his crown.
