Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 9, 2023 Journalists Posted August 9, 2023 The explosive start to Tuesday night's second session of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale continued when a colt by two Hall of Famers–Curlin and Beholder (Henny Hughes)–led all yearlings thus far when he sold for $4 million to Amr Zedan. The much-anticipated offering, recently featured in TDN, was bred in Kentucky by Spendthrift Farm and consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency. The Apr. 6-foaled chestnut is the first-ever sales offering out of his champion dam, who was represented by her first stakes winner May 6 when 3-year-old Teena Ella (War Front) won the GIII Senorita S. at Santa Anita. In addition to four championship titles of her own, Beholder is out a Broodmare of the Year in Leslie's Lady (Tricky Creek), who also produced Spendthrift's multiple leading sire Into Mischief, and Breeders' Cup winner/Coolmore sire Mendelssohn (Scat Daddy). The $4-million colt was Hip 165. Curlin was the only sire at Monday night's first session with two yearlings among the top 10 highest-priced offerings, including a $1.05-million filly, and, among his mountain of accomplishments, sired three individual Eclipse Award winners last year.
