Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 3, 2018 Journalists Share Posted October 3, 2018 Shadwell’s MGSW Taareef (Kitten’s Joy–Sacred Feather, by Carson City) has been retired and will stand at Haras du Mezeray in France. Bred by Dixiana Farms LLC, the 2017 G1 Qatar Prix du Moulin de Longchamp bridesmaid was snapped up by Shadwell for $675,000 at the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Unbeaten in two starts as a juvenile over turf and all-weather for Jean-Claude Rouget, the colt ran second in the G3 Prix de Fontainebleau first up at three and added tallies in the G3 Prix Daphnis and G2 Qatar Prix Daniel Wildenstein later that year. Kept in training at four, the Kentucky-bred took the G3 Prix Bertrand du Breuil Longines and ran out a narrow second to Ribchester (Ire) (Iffraaj {GB}) in the Prix du Moulin, one start prior to his second Wildenstein title. A third in the G2 Prix du Muguet from three starts in 2018 sees the chestnut retire with a record of 15-7-2-1 and $664,837 in earnings. “Taareef mixed it with the best at a mile in France, beating several Group 1 winners and establishing himself as a high-class performer for Jean-Claude Rouget, who always held the horse in the highest regard,” said Shadwell Stud Director Richard Lancaster. “He was a talented 2-year-old, unbeaten in two starts, which is a huge bonus in what has become a hugely commercially driven market place. Taareef also has the added appeal of being by Kitten’s Joy, who is arguable one of the hottest stallions in the world right now on the back of leading lights Roaring Lion and Hawkbill.” Taareef is out of the SP Carson City mare Sacred Feather, herself a half-sister to MSW & GSP Crimson Classic (Sky Classic), GSWs Marastani (Shahrastani) and Christine’s Outlaw (Wild Again) and SWs Amansara (War Chant) and Foret Noire (Time for a Change). His second dam is GSW Marianna’s Girl (Dewan), who is a half to MGSW and GI Whitney H. runner-up Bold Style (Bold Commander). A fee for the 5-year-old will be announced later.
