The three-year-old colt smashed his rivals in horrible conditions to give Godolphin another live chance to go back-to-back in the Caulfield Guineas after Anamoe’s win in the 2021 edition. After jumping quickly with the first few, the James Cummings-trained colt sat outside the lead and on the home corner he kicked clear and never looked like being beaten, as he won eased down by 3.5 lengths as the $2.15 favourite. 2021: Lightsaber strikes in Guineas Prelude Peter Moody bought up a second win in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude when his colt Lightsaber ($4.80) managed to kick clear of his rivals after racing up on speed. With Military Expert setting the pace, Luke Nolen was forced to sit outside the lead throughout on the eventual winner and when asked to quicken, did so and managed to grind his rivals into the ground over the 1400m. Brigatine ($6.50) simply could not bridge the gap that Lightsaber put on him at the 200m mark, going down by a half-length, with Military Expert ($7.50) a further neck back. Race favourite Alpine Eagle ($4.60) saw nothing but backsides in the home straight, with Craig Williams simply unable to get him out of a pocket. 2020: Crosshaven continues impressive start to career With another quality performance in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m), Crosshaven ($5.50) extended his record to four wins from five starts and $305,338 in stakes – more than four times his purchase price. Ridden by Daniel Stackhouse, Crosshaven sat in second place for most of the race before quickening brilliantly in the straight. He soon reeled in the front-running National Choice ($51) and went clear to score by 1.75 lengths in front of Amish Boy ($7), with National Choice sticking on for third. 2019: Alligator Blood snaps up Prelude Queensland raider Alligator Blood ($6) put his name up in lights when claiming the 2019 Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude. Settled perfectly in second on the back of lead Roccabascerana ($20), Ryan Maloney had the eventual winner in clear air on the home turn and when asked to quicken, quickly put the leader away. He was seemingly vulnerable with 100m to go, but Maloney got the best out of his mount to hold off the fast-finishing Dalasan ($2.30) and Groundswell ($18), with less than a length separating the trifecta across the line.
