Coleraine Racing Club is scheduled to host a competitive eight-race program on Sunday afternoon, headlined by the Great Western Chase. Showers are forecast across the weekend, meaning the Soft 5 track rating may likely be a Soft 7 come Sunday. The rail sticks to the true position, with racing commencing at 12:30pm AEST.

Best Bet at Coleraine – Roland Garros

Roland Garros took out the Great Western Chase last year, and we anticipate he will do so once again. The nine-year-old gelding has a win and two seconds to his name in his last three starts, suggesting he could not be in better condition for the 3600m assignment. He is a galloper who will appreciate any rain that does fall, and with the in-form Will McCarthy on board, Roland Garros will be given every chance out in the lead to run his rivals off their feet.

Best Bet

Race 5 – Silk #3 Roland Garros (5)

9yo Gelding | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Will McCarthy (70kg)

Next Best at Coleraine – Alassak

Kelvin Bourke’s Alassak has two wins in succession to his name, and there looks to be no reason why he cannot bring up a third-straight triumph. The 10-year-old gelding was a smart winner two runs back when putting a space on his rivals in a dominant all-the-way win. In this 0-58 event, he goes up 4.5kg from that win for this highweight assignment, but that should be no deterrent. Tom Ryan will have Alassak leading the field up, and as long as he can handle the 69.5kg, he should prove too hard to run down.

Next Best

Race 6 – Silk #1 Alassak (8)

10yo Gelding | T: Kelvin Bourke | J: Tom Ryan (69.5kg)

Best Value at Coleraine – El Diez

Master jumps trainer Eric Musgrove sends El Diez to the Coleraine Hurdle with the seven-year-old looking to go one better having finished second in the 2022 edition. He has a win and that runner-up effort to his name at Coleraine, a track that seemingly suits those with form around the circuit. He draws to gain every chance in running under Darryl Horner Jnr from barrier three, and with a clean jumping display, El Diez will be hard to beat.

Best Value

Race 4 – Silk #3 El Diez (3)

7yo Gelding | T: Eric Musgrove | J: Darryl Horner Jnr (69.5kg)
