What Goulburn Races
Where Goulburn Race Club – Racecourse Dr, Goulburn NSW 2580
When Monday, August 14, 2023
First Race 1:15pm AEST

Visit Ladbrokes

Country racing heads to Goulburn on Monday afternoon for a competitive seven-race program. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit for the meeting, and with plenty of rain forecast leading into race-day, we expect the course to be a worsening Soft 7 prior to the opening event at 1:15pm AEST.

Best Bet at Goulburn – Gundy Guy

Gundy Guy is trained out of the Todd Smart yard and looks ready for a strong debut performance on Monday. He’s only had one jump-out at Goulburn over the 800m and the son of Capitalist couldn’t have been more impressive. He cruised up to his rivals under a stranglehold for Jordan Mallyon, and if we can take him on trust on that alone, he’s going to be very hard to beat in the opener.

Best Bet

Race 1 – Silk #8 Gundy Guy (10)

3yo Gelding | T: Todd Smart | J: Jordan Mallyon (56.5kg)

$1.60 with Bet365

Next Best at Goulburn – Whetu

Whetu looks to be ready to win dropping significantly in grade for the first time this preparation. He’s been competitive in BM company in provincial company prior to Monday and wasn’t disgraced in his latest effort at Newcastle on July 25. He got back to near-last on that occasion before powering into third behind Knights Armour and Rollercoaster, the latter of which produced a subsequent win. Whetu should be somewhere mid-field turning for home, and provided Beany Panya can find clear running late, we’d be shocked if he didn’t figure in the finish.

Next Best

Race 2 – Silk #1 Whetu (6)

6yo Gelding | T: Richard Collett | J: Beany Panya (62.5kg)

$4.00 with Neds

Best Value at Goulburn – River Tamar

River Tamar hasn’t set the world on fire in her four career starts to date; however, we think this daughter of Tavistock isn’t far away from a maiden victory. She needed the run first-up after a long spell, finishing fifth 2.7 lengths away from Picko Rocks at Kembla Grange on July 27. She got every chance to make an impression, but this race looks much more manageable, and with soft track conditions looking to suit River Tamar, we’re confident she’s worth an each-way ticket here.

Best Value

Race 5 – Silk #6 River Tamar (13)

4yo Mare | T: John Sargent | J: Danny Beasley (57kg)

$8.00 with PendleburyBet
