Katie Cox has the chance to continue her outstanding winter form at Ashburton on Sunday.

Cox has produced a strong strike-rate as both a trainer and driver this season, with her efforts over the recent months providing a good boost to her numbers.

The trainer-driver will be out to notch another win when Monsignor has his second start at the races at Ashburton in race 1.

The trotter comes into his assignment after producing a faultless debut win at Addington.

“He did go nice first up and he has come through the run well and trained on quite well,” Cox said.

“It is always a step up in grade coming out of maidens but hopefully he should handle it pretty well.”

Though he’s clearly just a baby in trotting terms, Monsignor does look to have manners beyond his experience.

“He is a sensible type and I would like to think he would be a decent chance in that field.”

Monsignor opened the $4 fixed odds second favourite for race 1 behind Maxwell Edison ($3.80).

The Cox stable also lines up Seacracka in race 2 on Sunday.

The filly produced a tidy third in her debut at Addington recently.

Seacracka led up in that run, but Cox may have to use different tactics at Ashburton.

“She was pretty green in that first run but she would have learnt a bit from it.”

“She will more than likely have to be driven with a sit from the draw (7) but we will make a call on that when the gate leaves.”

Though she still has to improve her ringcraft, Seacracka has the ability to win race 2.

“She is a nice filly, quite athletic and has a bit of speed.”

“I think is probably six to 12 months away from strengthening up.”

“She is just a bit green too, but once she gets a bit more ringcraft she will be a lot better.”

Seacracka opened the $2.50 favourite for race 2 on Sunday.
