Deterministic (c, 2, Liam's Map–Giulio's Jewel, by Speightstown) overcame a less-than-ideal jump early on and a touch of traffic later to not only catch Hurricane Nelson (Khozan) for the victory, but also secure the nod as the newest 'TDN Rising Star' for his sire. The colt hails from the family of GI Breeders' Cup Classic winner Bayern, and the pedigree also includes a pair of successful group winners in Japan via his second dam's half-siblings. Eliminate (Curlin) would round out the trifecta. The final time was 1:24.18.

Sales history: $625,000 Ylg '22 KEESEP. O-St. Elias Stable, Ken Langone, C. Steven Duncker, and Vicarage Stable; B-Hinkle Farms (KY); T-Christophe Clement.
