  6. To be fair Hesi I'm the sober driver - 5 of us going and 2 are total newbies when it comes to going to the races. Personally I don't punt but as with any time someone perceives that you know something about the game I will be pestered for tips! Of course I don't have the contacts of an ex jockey or the foolproof blueprints of Thomaas and I'm still learning the Mardigras approach so any help will be appreciated. At the very least I can use the Winston method and will be able to deflect the blame if any tips lose!
  7. Brando - both races are still R65 class and if you win you still cop the same points penalty. The only difference is the amount of stakes available. Then when you look further up the classes you will see in the "Saturday classes" Open races that are no more than R85's when you look at the average ratings. Flatten the stakes, get rid of the so called tiers and help those stakeholders that are subsidising racing....maybe then we will see some decent Open class races again. As for STITCH - who's to say it won't come up against and up and comer 3yr old (before Christmas but wearing blinkers for the first time) looking for an easy kill to expedite its chances for a classic start?

  9. They all had cost. I wonder what the MAC'S are being paid?
  10. Have they remeasured the "revamped" track?
  11. Unfortunately you have been let down by racing leadership for two decades. I don't see that changing soon as long as the elite are in charge WITHOUT any top level involvement from those at the coal face. If we are not careful the new Cambridge complex will be a money sink hole and will slowly drain the lifeblood from every region via disproportionate funding from that same leadership. The number of meeting abandonments is a total red herring. They help NZTR balance the books. Why doesn't NZTR evenly distribute the allocated stakes to all acceptors of an abandoned meeting? In reality they cant afford to. The first task on the agenda should be to address the revenue earning side of the industry. Racefields legislation is another red herring. Restructure the NZRB ASAP. Sorry JA but you need to show the way by taking a pay cut and earn a salary commensurate with the actual size of your organisation. Next hire a general manager that knows something about the wagering industry. Currently you don't have that expertise and are getting poor advice. Price your product competitively. Lastly get a forensic programme recovery team in ASAP for your never ending IT project. I know a group of individuals who have put right more than one dying project both in the public and private sectors.

  20. Getting this topic back on track - excuse the pun. So we are going to get a new poly track to train and eventually race on in Cambridge. Aside from the many downsides of a poly track in terms of horse welfare we are now going to INCREASE the number of race tracks! Is Te Rapa going to shift their grandstand, stables and other facilities to Cambridge or are they going to build new ones? How many abandoned meetings will this new track save? I suggest zero or one at most. Meanwhile nothing has been done on the revenue side to make any of the existing tracks sustainable let alone a brand new one!!!!
