Okay let’s look at the word vulnerable then, from your dictionary of choice (but please do feel free to let the team at Collins know you’re displeased with their definition of the precise terms and let us know how you get on with that). If you take a hound from the only place it’s ever known, and from the (alleged) person who loves it and leave it someone completely foreign with people it does not know, it’s going to be emotionally vulnerable. It’s why most adopters are counselled in the 3-3-3 guidelines, to help them adjust as emotionally safely as possible. Most, probably all, humans would also be emotionally vulnerable in the same circumstances and we have reasoning and understanding. Or do you not believe dogs feel emotions?

Sailed right over his head didn’t it?

Cool story bro. I know many people with pet greyhounds and not a single one has ever heard from a trainer to ‘delight’ in following their hound’s progress. I’m sure Cole, McInerney, the Faheys, Roberts, Evans remember and follow up each and every single one of their thousands of past hounds and know each and every one individually in the present. I’m sure it was all a big misunderstanding when tattooing was stopped and trainers asked grnz for microchip scanners to be able to identify between all their dogs - cos they love them so they would absolutely be tell each one apart eh? And if trainers love their dogs so much why don’t they keep them all as pets instead of giving them up when they are no longer economically viable? Why the need for the free to trainers (who’ve made potentially thousands from the hound) but $380 for adopters - maybe discounted if you take a broken one - Great Mates programme? If trainers all love them so much they will keep them snuggled up on their couches forever surely! All 199 currently racing just for Cole, 175 for McInerney - not to mention the breeding pipeline to fuel that. Why don’t they pay for their vet and rehabilitation care and treat them at home instead of dumping the hounds they break into a full to bursting RtR programme and washing their hands of these hounds they love? Dogs not only injured but now recovering from career ending serious injury but now in a completely foreign place, away from the place they know and the person that loves them. You’ve got a warped view of love there.

Rescued dog, a definition: 2. a dog that has been placed in a new home after being abused, neglected, or abandoned by its previous owner. Collins English Dictionary. Abandon, a definition If you abandon a place, thing, or person, you leave the place, thing, or person permanently or for a long time, especially when you should not do so. Collins English Dictionary. If you love your dogs, as the industry slogan goes, you don’t abandon them. Simple.

https://www.grnz.co.nz/catch-the-action/15880/stewards-report.aspx The report itself, which has been amended to include the injury now, also says it was subsequent to Thursdays race
-
Genuine question: why would it be recorded in a stewards’ report as a supplementary for 02 May’s race day if it was a non race day injury? The hound was ineligible to race Friday because it had raced the day before so it wasn’t a late scratching.
-
It’s 3x major 2 injuries in the last two days at Addington (plus a major 1 - torn right deltoid on Monday) Given Thursday’s fractured hock was completely missed and the hound not even vet checked on race day, how many other injuries are missed? 🤔

America Rehoming Project Underway

It’s lucky my name isn’t Tyra isn’t it? 🤪 #shortmemorymuch And given the RIB reported in March 2023 that with the current breeding vs rehoming rates (the later of which have further plummeted since) it would take seven years to rehome all the hounds in the industry at that point. So rehoming is, unfortunately, going to be a challenge for a long time to come. -

Thank you @Yankiwi @aquaman and @BitofaLegend for some actual discourse on the topic rather than the admin skating perilously close to breaking his own site’s privacy policy. How does that work if I have to complain to @Chief Stipe about @Chief Stipe? I think the pet insurance suggestion (about $1,000 per dog per annum) would be the most viable cost alternative from GRNZ’s perspective, rather than covering vet bills, if my rescued hounds are anything to go by. We’ve spent close to 10k in 5 years on one’s teeth alone and 3k on dental bills for the other in 18 months, plus at least 5k more on bloat emergency vet visits. Then there’s the arthritis monthly injections and pain relief and other small injuries and illnesses. Most of this isn’t covered by insurance because dental is excluded or they have been deemed pre existing conditions (one is an RtR hound). Obviously from an adopter’s perspective vet bills covered would be vastly preferable. -

Can’t let it go eh? And 🤣 at how you think there’s so few people with potentially differing views that you can just work your way through naming them. Keep guessing. -

Again, just because you demand something doesn’t mean anyone has to do it. And if no one else here takes notice of my posts as you say, then so be it. But you’re sure het up enough about them and clearly can’t let it go to actually talk about the thread topic 🤪 -

So let’s get back to the actual point of this thread, eh? Flying dogs to America for rehoming: how do people feel about this and the money involved to do this? On top of the (at capacity) Rehab to Rehoming facilities, it must be costing a small fortune- does it seem a sustainable way to manage the rehoming crisis? -

Lololol just like the pro racers who post here have an agenda. You just don’t like when someone’s views don’t appear to align with what your opinions? Because if you were truly ambivalent about greyhound racing why are we still having this deeply boring, repetitive conversation about the account name you approved? -

Lolololol for someone who doesn’t have problem with the account name you sure bang on about it a lot. And you’re the only person on these forums who has 🤣🤔 Likewise, it’s also clear how you view greyhound trainers so why would anyone take your point of view seriously? Keeping in mind independent research shows 74 per cent of Kiwis would vote to ban greyhound racing in a public referendum. -

Haven’t we…had this conversation before? The one where I pointed out that you, as site admin, approved the account name. So the clear inference is you’re actually okay with it. Yep, we’ve definitely had that convo already. And again, as we’ve already discussed, there was nothing in the T&Cs when the account was created that said you had to declare your views on racing or trainers. Not do I see you, as site admin, demanding (ad nauseam) that anyone else must do so either 🙄 -

Also little bit weird that you, as the site admin, allow people to have completely non-verified names but you try to publicly out the person behind this account 🤔🤔🤔 -

From the GRNZ website Greyhound Racing New Zealand (GRNZ) is pleased to announce that its America Rehoming Project is officially underway, following a period of extensive due diligence and planning. On Wednesday, 14 retired greyhounds were successfully transported from New Zealand to Chicago to begin their new lives in their American forever homes. We are pleased to advise that all 14 grehounds travelled very well and all have been picked up by their adoption agencies. GRNZ has worked closely on this initiative with Greyhound Pets of America, the national consultative group for the promotion of greyhound adoptions across the United States of America (USA). Both parties have worked hard to ensure that animal welfare is the foremost priority at every step of the process, with a robust set of mandatory Welfare Guidelines having been developed specifically for this project. GRNZ is committed to every greyhound having the opportunity to find its forever home at the end of its racing career. While GRNZ continues to put considerable time and resource into rehoming dogs in New Zealand, the America Rehoming Project means that more greyhounds can be rehomed annually - and faster, thereby reducing waiting list times significantly. GRNZ firmly believes rehoming greyhounds to the USA is a positive for the industry, and exemplifies our dedication to ensuring the best possible welfare outcomes for every greyhound. Does it matter? Are you asking everyone else to declare their pro or anti stance? Is that now a condition of posting here? 🤪
