  1. Over promise, under delivery?
  2. Pfftt!!! What happens will entirely depend on who he listens to. I'd be surprised if he's not out of his depth.
  3. Racing can be cruel. With the way Colin speaks and gives his opinion on all subjects I am sure he will honour the gentleman's agreement.
  4. Yip, quite different to the man himself I've discovered. Gave me something to do for 5 minutes.
  5. Thanks. I'll google him and see if I can find a photo.
  6. Sam will also be the recipient of the trainer's percentage for the half share sale. Nothing wrong with that.
  7. Safely through the race the horse is likely to go to Chris Waller. This happens a lot in racing. I'd say Sam Wynne will be thankful for her part of it so far and look forward to the next ones she'll train for Colin Wightman. What a start to anyone's training career.
  8. It's a story and a half that's for sure, with at least one chapter to come. I assume that in the photo it is Colin Wightman leading the filly in. I don't know what I expected him to look like but, that wasn't it. He goes back to the days of Mandy Brown's filly so, I thought he'd at least look older.
  9. I can only applaud clubs who assemble top fields, good stakes, sponsors and crowds. Well done to you all. One thing they've done at Wingatui is they have plumped up more than just one day. I'm not excluding the efforts from clubs further north but, you have to commend the Otago outfit for coming at it from more than one angle. I don't know the dymanics of this club but, looking from the outside it would appear there is a collective of minds and manpower which is probably a little old fashioned, and effective.
  10. I read where there is trouble with the Trentham stand. It must have been gossip as I see there is advertising for best dressed and other events on Oaks day, suggesting no one is taking the condemned building ticket seriously.
  11. That's an impressive attitude. Most would be angry with the world.
  12. Because of the fast paced nature of racing when someone dies it seems there's some quick recognition and then back into it. It's quite difficult for families of the deceased as it's like their loved one is quickly forgotten. I know that is not the case and everyone grieves in their own way. My wish is that people think about giving someone the time of day more when at the track, sales or races. One thing I admired about Mike, he treated everyone the same.
  13. Who would want to run a busy racing club with all those KPI's, expectations and having to continually come up with new ideas each meeting to get different crowds on track so that you keep your job?
  14. What a ride Danny Frye and team have had with Our Echo. Bill McNamara and Shankar Muniandy would be ecstatic with their pay day today.
  15. They've had 4 months. I think it will be sparkling now.
  16. Every horse is different. What works with one could have an adverse effect on another.
  17. I don't think the slot race is designed to help NZ racing in the long term, if at all.
  18. As long as you train like Gai.
  19. The "aftermath" would be interesting.
  20. From the conversations I've had, I think so.
  21. Perception.
  22. "The move to ban greyhound racing will be subject to a select committee process where public submissions on the plan will be considered." This is from the latest NZ Herald report. Who is submitting?
  23. That being the case maybe he won't be in NZ long. As far as the interview goes I thought, what will he say that I don't already know so didn't bother watching it.
  24. Anyone who wants to bring 20 people to the races should be embraced.
