Chief Stipe
Horse apparently slips in race 6 (I say apparently because one can only assume it didn't clip heels) and another goes over the top. How did they get round in the first 5 races? MEETING NEWS Racing Rotorua Abandoned The remaining two races have been abandoned at today's Racing Rotorua meeting, due to a horse slipping at the 500m mark. Chief Stipe
There's a lot theories doing the rounds. I bet we don't get to see the Stewards vision. However the theory that they hadn't run over that piece of ground prior to race 6 is BS. As is the field size argument. 12 horses went round in race 5 and raced over that ground. Race 6 they ran over it twice. The first time without a problem.
curious
Following the running of this race riders expressed concern regarding the track. Stewards along with Club Officials and riders inspected the track in particular the area near the 500 metres where DANZINO had blundered and fallen with the decision being made to abandon the meeting due to the track being unsafe. curious
Couldn't find anything wrong with it. Rotorua The Abandonment Review Committee have received reports from the RIB, RTA and NZSTI following the partial abandonment of the Rotorua Raceday held Thursday 25 July. We have also viewed stewards’ footage of the incident which was inconclusive as to whether a racing incident played a significant role in the horse losing its footing. Testing of the area has found no material concerns or abnormalities with the surface in that particular area given the time of year nor was the area significantly different to the rest of the track. The Committee also found no fault in the preparation of the track by the Club. Therefore full funding will be paid on the meeting.

Which begs the question - what was the point in inspecting the track? Are the RIB really that gun shy?
