hesi
There was a time when this was the second most looked forward to day of the year, behind Boxing Day, we'd even take the day off and drive down from Auckland The very best 3 year olds all lining up Now it is just another average day Could they have f'ed it up more if they tried
Thomass
Why would they program a PREMIER day on a Friday...and allow Cromwell to take Sunday? When their stated intention is to MAXIMISE the Calender... ...clearly this doesnt
SLB2.0
Gotta love the front runners bias...

This day has always been on a Friday or Thursday, which suits the rural community a lot. Remember the whole day used to be sponsored by Bayer, a supplier of agricultural and horticultural chemicals, and therefore all the people they supplied got tickets and an invite to a feed and piss up. Always a big crowd on course Edited November 30, 2018 by hesi
Thomass
Well tradition doesn't pay the bills I'm afraid Off course turnover is everything....couldn't the country folk postpone church for a day...or have a twilight meeting at least? SLB2.0
Another leader wins. This is becoming rather boring.
Guest CrossCodes
The days racing was a farce, every winner in the first couple turning for home, nothing made much ground all day.
sharne
loved the bayer day we had great times and it was a fantastic day and night
hesi
As relatively big buyers of Bayer products, we got tickets, food and grog, all in the Bayer marquee, so we went every year, to see horses like Veandercross. It meant a 3am start from Auckland, as we drove done each year, but those were the days.
hesi
Some good horses to come out of today's racing, Whiskey Neat, Rhinestone Cowboy and maybe Crown Prosecutor But what's the bet they get sold off, or race in Aus, so what's the incentive to go to the races to see journeyman horses, with the odd exception or two
SLB2.0
I'll make a bold claim that Crown Prosecutor doesn't win any race of note.

Cromwell is an amazing Raceday on course and could be even better if the ORC had an idea how to manage a large crowd. Possibly the next best Raceday outside Riccarton.
Thomass
Never said it wasnt But you don't program superior PREMIER rated race days mid weak... ...with a Sth Is day getting weekend preference.... Cant see anything wrong with both racing Sunday though But the other codes would vehemently protest
Thomass
This was SIMPLY AWFUL racing Thats what you get when Track Mangers play around with rail placements SEVERE BIAS After their track debacles...and the RIU f up...who decided NO TRIALS Thry had to act... to the detriment of fair racing If only we got back to the old days...of NO IRRIGATION and PERMANENT RAIL Those were them days...HQ used to have massive fields and raced 4 days within 7 ffs Punters had confidence to invest...these days they dont ......And the Industry wonders why PUNTERS have buggered off
