There was a notable example last year where the best sprinter in Australia was offered a slot by a Slot Owner but on the condition that the horse was SOLD to the Slot Owner.  I'm not sure what the prize money share offered was but it certainly wasn't the full purse.

Now there are numerous variations of how a horse gets into The Everest.  Generally Waller, Godolphin and Coolmore have a horse good enough to start - they probably have 2 or some years more that would rank in the top 14 sprinters in Australia.  They could do a deal with another Slot Owner to get another of their horses into the race.

At the end of the day getting into The Everest is dictated by the big stables and big owners.  The neogtiations that go on and the final deals are numerous and varied.   As are the amounts that are "shared".

Theorectically now that The Everest is a Grp 1 a Slot Owner could offer the owner of a mare that was the best ranked sprinter a start just for the glory of getting The Everest Grp 1 in their pedigress i.e. share NONE of the prize money.

yes you do see that bit of stuff happening. Funny negotiations. Recently 2 Slot holders went 'Halvies' in the $2,000,000 'Eureka' recently run at Menangle. (harness racings richest race) with whatever horses they managed to get in their slots. So seemed a fear of missing out or a tinge of greed involved with that set-up. 

There is a sort of Error that NZ harness is making with it's Slot races ( and hopefully the gallops doesn't make the same Mistake ) I do love the Aus participation in NZ , but to support NZ Breeders and Owners they SHOULD of had a 'Clause' NZ BRED entries only 

The Eureka in NSW actually excluded NZ Breds . A bit unfair. stops it being an Interdominion. One of the great things unique to Australasian harness racing. 

BUT to support the NZ Breeders (and the NZ Owners to a degree) the Race by Grins, That Slot trot (   that Aussie Just Believe romped in at Cambridge), The Up-coming 'Velocity' and 'Ascent' 1/2 million dollar races at Addington Showday should ALL be NZ Bred Horses only.  I love the Aussie competition but just seems un-fair on the locals there that All of a sudden the Aus stars are turning up and mugging the prizes.  (like KEAYANG Zahara the Victorian will on Show-day) 

I mean it's fantastic racing that I enjoy , but seems a little un-fair the wins are going International.  

So I really hope when the NZ gallop Slot races start , they ban the Aussies 😂😆. well just have NZ bred horses, and maybe 'Limit' the number of International Slot holders. 

QLD did it well recently with a Slot race for 2 year olds. They made sure a certain amount of slots were for QLD (drawn by Ballot) , and Interstate persons were drawn by Ballot for a certain amount of slots as well, and 2 slots were given to the race Sponsor. Important they get recognition for the big input to get it All going.. the results was very Good with those clauses.
