Thomass
I'm sure I read it somewhere and if correct it's unfathomable isn't it? A multi national conglomerate noted for it's dodgy behaviour funding an 'Integrity' Unit You don't think Dean Shannon gave Dr. Eliot's Board a ring and said "we'll scratch your back (funding) and you can scratch ours thanks very much" Nek minute TAB announces the RIB have told us 'no more no deductions.. ...It's a serious integrity concern" Oh yea of course it is....hahahahaha

Do you propose a levy/tax on all stakeholders to fund it instead?
Special Agent
Integrity is an odd word to be associated with a gambling industry. Thomas, why do you think many were up in arms about the loss of various revenue streams through the TAB, like the pokies? The entire industry is funded in some form by punters who invest through the TAB, and as such they often refer to themselves as the life blood of the industry.

NZTAB distributed $12m of pokie generated funding to the racing industry in FY24. Not sure what you mean by it being lost.
Special Agent
I thought part of the Entain/Government deal meant relinquishing the pokie money. Maybe that's changed.

Never was to my knowledge but the class 4 gaming operations were not part of the Entain deal. That stayed with NZTAB. Entain operate racing and sports betting and trackside. TABNZ said they would relinquish the licences if they got the satisfactory geonet legislation through. It was nothing to do with the original Entain deal but a voluntary undertaking by TABNZ. curious
“Attached to the monopoly proposal (geo-blocking), but not part of the agreement, in exchange for expanding the monopoly from onshore to online I negotiated with the TAB and they agreed they would relinquish their class 4 gaming licence and stick just to wagering, and so that would be a 500 poker machine drop to our country’s total – there would not be machines in TAB outlets anymore, and that means the TAB can focus just on wagering as it was intended to do right from the start." Wasn't a key part of the ENTAIN deal the promised legislation? TABNZ who were doing the negotiation did a trade deal with the Government with the Pokie revenue and the legislation.
