SLB2.0
I don't really need to describe just how bad Jasmine Fawcett's ride on Ballon D'Or was, because I'm sure you all saw it. I don't think we'll see a worse ride in NZ today (which is saying something).

You're making a case that you can't criticise someone or something unless you have it yourself before. That's an idiotic argument. SLB2.0
The winner was third on the rail and it would have made sense to move to its outside, but she didn't make a move on Ballon D'Or until Class had already gone off and running - and barely got into the horse until 100m to go. I get that style of ride at Riccarton with a long straight, but around Te Aroha?
SLB2.0
Happy to concede if no one else thought it was a bad ride. I just expect a more positive effort on the odds-on favourite.
Wingman
jockey was probably over confident and perhaps the horse hit a flat spot which gave the pacemaker an added advantage. There are two rules for four horse fields, 1 Avoid, 2 Refer to rule 1

If it were mine, I'd be rapt, except that it didn't quite win of course. JMO. Edited Saturday at 02:10 AM by curious
SLB2.0
Agreed. It was a very good run in defeat. I think my expectations might be too high for our jockeys, but it's much easier to judge the pace from the comfort of my couch. I think if J Mac rode it that way in a four-horse field in Aus, he'd cop some criticism as well.

Te Aroha has a reasonably long straight isn't over 350m? About 380m? The corner is flat and a bit tricky to improve on. Bit like Ellerslie in that respect. Wingman
make that 400-430m, used to be longer before they did work on it

They don't seem to get round the bend that well though.
Wingman
Which raises the question have they fixed a problem area then 'fixed' the home turn which to the best of my knowledge wasn't a problem area?
Jim Green
I tend to agree. Waited far to long to go. Similar to the jockey on Wilydoit in the lead up to the Derby. I didn't back the horse but I will next time. They all make mistakes, we can call them slaughters as long as we don't make it a personal attack on the jockey. Is anyone able to put the stewards report up? I'm tipping they will have questioned the ride, although my tipping didn't go so flash today ,the group 1 2yo saved my arse from a clean out. Enough left to go again tomorrow.

SLB2.0 Posted yesterday at 01:38 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 01:38 AM No personal attacks in my post - until Muzza came along. I certainly didn't call a jockey overrated, that's for sure. Aye Scooby?
