Riccarton Trials @Synthetic?

Possible Riccarton Synthetic Trials - Wednesday

The  Ashburton Trials scheduled for Tuesday have been cancelled.

The Canterbury Jockey Club has offered the Polytrack as an option to have a Trials meeting at Riccarton Park on Wednesday.

This is subject to two things:

  1. Sufficient entries being received. Being able to step in when weather and other conditions make a turf track unavailable was a key plank in the industry wanting Synthetic tracks so hopefully there will be.
  2. All staff, service providers and contractors being available.

Good to see another option being put up - with the release as above.  Interesting! The second part of #1 comment makes it sounds like you're on notice, Canterbury trainers! (to support the synthetic).  And as for #2 - I'd have thought trials wouldn't even be proposed unless those ducks were in a line?  But I guess I don't understand how these things work & the batting order for organising them ...

Options to trial are important I believe - for all participants equine & human - including punters.

Really? Do they think that trialling on synthetic is a good way to condition horses for grass racing? Especially for horses that have never even galloped on one? No clue where they get that idea. Sounds like a good recipe for injury to me.

No argument from me Curious.  Owners will trust their trainers to make the right decisions for their horses.  I don't know enough about that track to know what those decisions would/should be - although I'm aware of some of the opinions that have been aired.

I was just bemused that the press release didn't just leave it at "depending on sufficient entries"  - rather than what seemed like a "poke" at the trainers - that they've been given what they asked for - now front up & use it! (at least, that's how it read to me ....)

It's not a big deal - but simply not what I would have expected in a factual, info-only bulletin regarding possible upcoming trials.  Maybe the Comms team had Easter weekend off ..... :)

Agree Jess. A totally unnecessary and inappropriate snipe at trainers and connections for being sensible and looking after the welfare of their horses. Shame on NZTR for publishing that.

They are too stupid and self centred to know what shame is

How about the Circus just utilise all the available turf tracks they have at their disposal and run the industry properly ...

Why didn't they just say this the first time rather than take pot shots at the industry's hard working horse persons?

Good Morning

Riccarton Synthetic Trials Wednesday

Trial entries for the Synthetic Trials close with the Bureau at 12 noon Tuesday 22 April. At that point it will be decided whether to proceed depending on numbers.

Kind Regards

Have they deleted this message from the website? I can't seem to find it any more, though I still have the condescending, patronizing email.

Meanwhile, huge numbers again at Levin jumpouts today.  If you didn't get a chance to sign the petition against the track being sold by NZTR, contact the president.  The lass collecting signatures was run off her feet.

Contrary to the Messara Report, Levin is now deemed surplus by the new CEO despite two lots of jumpouts and a set of jumping trials this month at the self-funded, low valued venue.  The few million dollars it's worth won't go far into the debt bucket of other CD clubs.

That's ridiculous but they are obviously getting desperate. Is their a link to sign that petition?

Messara clearly said "Throughout this period, we assume that Foxton, Levin and Opaki continue as training only venues." Who on earth made that decision to the contrary? I've seen nothing about it before.

Not to my knowledge re link to petition.  Trainers, owners and riders were hit with it today.

Maybe President Shawn Hawkins 0275235355 can shed more light on it.

Please post any more information you get.  Things are bad enough in the South Island!
