Good eulogy from Bellew.

Imagine if the Brothers had have crossed Zabeel with those good race mares, progeny could've been anything.

RIP Tony Dennis ...part of a fantastic family that has contributed so much to NZ Racing.

Bred and trained many terrific horses.

They did use several champion NZ sires such as Savabeel , Mellay ,Gatekeeper , O'Reilly ,Noble Bijou ,plus Grosvenor [son of Sir Tristram] and Flying Spur.

They didn't go to mug sires !

Yes, but they wouldn't use Zabeel because they reckoned he was too expensive (200k from memory) at the time.

They tried the Star Kingdom line of sprinting stallions at a time when Zabeel was at his peak which weakened their breed somewhat in my view.

Grosvenor was from the Sir Ivor/Sir Tristram sire line as was Zabeel but Zabeel had the prepotent maternal sire line of Northern Dancer/Nureyev. These bloodlines coupled with the fact that Zabeel wasn't over-raced would've further strengthened the Dennis breed IMO, but I'm no breeding buff.
