mikeynz Posted February 1 Posted February 1 2 nominations, then..........13 noms for 3 pacing races at Auckland, Wairio rating 50 to 70, how many ? But then also Sunday Horarata 46 to 70, programming all over the place, anything over rating 55 struggling.......strangely fields for Cambridge Wednesday generally good, I seriously wonder if going to Alexandra Park just don't appeal to many, prefer Cambridge. Not that bad, not one nomination for the 2year old male pace for $17k! HRNZ really need to pull their head out of the sand and stop denying the actual reality of what is happening? If they dont then things are going to get very dire! We need A spokesman for HRNZ to start conversing with the public as to how they think they can continue when the cash is all gooooone! Quote

mikeynz Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 (edited) Every race or many races you see a wide band in the ratings just to get starters, rating 41s racing rating 50s, then FFAlls rating 62, racing rating 80s 90s or whatever, it's a mess. The old system while not perfect you know where you stood. Edited February 2 by mikeynz 1 Quote

They definitely need another brainstorming system and debate about the way things are tracking! Quote
mikeynz Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 Amberley must have done some begging, 7 in the Cup rating 60 but 2 under that.........Wairio noms as expected, none in the 2yo fills race, 6 in the main pace, Horarata cup 18 noms rating 49+ still believe any race with 6 or less starters penalty free. mikeynz Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 Manawatu have 7 noms for 2 races for non winners, be interesting to see how they manage that but non winners should have the most numbers but not the case, Southland no better sometimes too. Quote
mikeynz Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 (edited) Looking at noms for Motukarara and Gore, it just keep emphasizing the fact that owners/trainers enjoy grass track racing. Hawera and Taupo weren't too bad either earlier on. Edited February 9 by mikeynz 2 Quote
mikeynz Posted yesterday at 04:02 AM Author Posted yesterday at 04:02 AM Only 2 noms for rating 50+ race at Cromwell and scrubbed but one would think day 2 numbers will pick up, no guarantees though. Quote
Brodie Posted yesterday at 05:54 AM Posted yesterday at 05:54 AM (edited) Addington 2 year old race on Thursday night at Addington for $17k! 3 from Kentuckiana, 1 Ross Houghton and the other Tom Twidle! What part of owner and trainers do not want to race their early 2 year olds, that HRNZ doesn’t understand??? Why do they really need to run these early 2 year old races that will have limited wagering and is guaranteed to lose money? Can someone please answer, as HRNZ can not keep doing this and losing money for the industry as well as the crap fields in Cambridge on Thursday night competing against Addington? People need to speak up as they are getting away with it and unfortunately at the end of the day it will not end well! Is there anyone that would trust HRNZ to invest their personal money with those at HRNZ, thinking they know what they are doing financially? More than happy to profusely apologise, if Brodie is not correct Edited yesterday at 05:56 AM by Brodie 1 Quote
mikeynz Posted 6 hours ago Author Posted 6 hours ago 3 noms for Sundays 60+ Ashburton Cup, 7 for the Cromwell main races, I personally believe the handicapping system is fucked, too many yo yo ing up and then back down. Quote
mikeynz Posted 6 hours ago Author Posted 6 hours ago With the stakes on offer still not attracting numbers anyone with a draft horse must be tempted to stick a sulky behind it and go racing, HRNZ might just welcome all the numbers they can get. 1 Quote

Correct the handicapping system is just not fair nowadays with such a gap between the ratings especially from the mobile. Is it really fair to have a maiden winner running against a horse that has won 15 races? not sure why the system has not been changed to something better like no. Of wins or stakemoney won or a bit of both? Often there is a rating difference of up to 20 points so needs amending surely? Quote

But you can't expect people to buy into yearlings if they are not going to have guaranteed races a year later. I don't know what the answer is.... Quote

But does it not seem that the owners and trainers are not wanting to race their horses early and therefore affecting the racing viability of their horses later on? The days of the Gordon Middleton and Des Grice bringing out these early 2 year olds is not happening! The industry financially just can not be operating the way they currently are! Whether the industry survives or flourishes does not really affect me at all! However I am deeply concerned for the harness industry and the good people that rely in it for a living! Any comments that I make that can be perceived as negative is solely for the concern for what is going on currently. Speaking up probably will not make a scrap of difference to what happens when Entain pulls the plug but at least I will have a clear conscience. I personally do not believe that the decision makers really have the best interests of harness racing at heart for the longevity of racing!! Quote
Brodie Posted 55 minutes ago Posted 55 minutes ago There are now only 3 starters in the 2 year old race on Thursday night for $17k! This is farcical and seriously we need people who are programming with some common sense surely? It is just one of many races that are run at a big loss for the industry but then again easy to spend other peoples money ! Anyway it is what it is and the owners who get the money may as well take it while it is in play as it will disappear! Why dont they give the winning owner a $12k bonus as well as it would be coming from Entain anyway? You just couldnt make this sxxt up ! Quote
mikeynz Posted 42 minutes ago Author Posted 42 minutes ago (edited) You would have to question if 2 meetings on friday nights, 2 meetings on Sundays is in the best interest for turnover, off setting that though is would you engage people's interest if there was one Friday night, Saturday and a Saturday night and a Sunday instead, I doubt you could either, Rugbys on at night now too, maybe the 2 meetings engages people more, that's a hard one to know......probably not cheap sending a TV crew to some of these meetings, I doubt Sky or TVNZ would for some, it's another thing Entain have spent plenty on, the media, some have been moved on which suggest it's not paying.
