Reefton
Now Bernard and his cohorts are flogging us this line about how we have too many tracks and need to concentrate our racing around the 'quality' venues so people have a 'quality' experience of racing with 'quality' facilities and a better 'quality' of nag participating. But in the last five weeks there have been four Riccarton Meetings(admittedly three on weekdays) and the total oncourse turnover, for the lot, has been $110000. Wellington last Saturday managed just under $20000 on course. If we did turnovers like that at Reefton Bernard would get his way and we would be finished quick smart I am struggling to get it through to these guys that people do not want to go to the races at these poncy dumps but surely this must be giving them the signal???
Freda
Nope. And it won't. This is the mantra that Alan Jackson has been pushing for a fair while, with no quantitative evaluation or other evidence to back it up....and as for the 'quality experience ' no one goes to Riccarton apart from on Cup Day - and National Day , but that will stop quickly enough; with the best jumping venues on the 'closed' list , the National is a dead duck. 1

Are you serious Reefton? A Saturday meeting and they couldn't do 20k on course and around the same figures for Riccarton. If any of these clubs have promotion/Marketing personal, they are clearly void of ideas,or you are 100% correct and these big clubs are the cause of the decline of Racing.Send these figures to Messara and see if he will reverse his original proposal.

Big John didn't write that part of the report though - under fairly intense questioning from me at Omoto Bernard virtually admitted that Campbell Moncur provided the part three info for the report(well put it this way when I said to him that it was Moncur he did not deny it just said we mustn't get into personalities) 2
Freda
Don't think it is up to Messara...he provided the blueprint, we are supposed to be actioning it. And the reason for the track closures, for his report, was to garner funds to upgrade a few tracks to present a slick, modern, professional product that overseas punters might just possibly want to bet on....given that NZ racing is effectively insolvent. When the reaction of the country clubs made it quite obvious that there were no funds forthcoming, the reason for closures became null and void. The wailing about allweather tracks looks to have all been in vain....things have gone ominously quiet there too....not that there would have been any punters left to bet on the blasted things. 2

They continue to alienate the many of the few remaining devotees in the blind belief that the 18-44 are going to step into the breach.
Hedley
Campbell Moncurr has been all for closing down tracks for nigh on 20yrs by now. It is his dogma that supports the agenda to make NZ a sattelite state of Australia.
