OMAHA BEACH (c, 3, War Front–Charming, by Seeking the Gold) held off ‘TDN Rising Star’ Improbable (City Zip) to score his third straight victory in Saturday’s GI Arkansas Derby, stamping his ticket to Louisville for the First Saturday in May. Entering off back-to-back bullet works, most recently breezing a best-of-45 five panels in 1:00 3.5 Apr. 6 at Santa Anita, he was installed as the slight favorite over Omaha Beach at post time. Mike Smith made an aggressive early move up the outside to take control after longshot One Flew South() clocked an opening quarter in :23.08. Clocking a half in :47.50, the bay was joined by Improbable to his outside turning for home and the stage was set for another battle with a Bob Baffert runner. Improbable tried as hard as he could to get to Omaha Beach, but he always had his market rival’s measure and held him safe by 3/4 of a length at the line. He is the 20th Grade I winner for top sire War Front. Never off the board, Omaha Beach graduated by nine lengths in the slop going seven panels at Santa Anita Feb. 2 and followed suit with a nose defeat of Improbable’s champion stablemate Game Winner (Candy Ride {Arg}) in a split division of the GII Rebel S. on a fast track here last time Mar. 16. Lifetime Record: 7-3-3-1.
