Roger Varian has confirmed he will be double-handed with Qabala (Scat Daddy) and Mot Juste (Distorted Humor) in the G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 5. The pair pleased Varian in a workout on Friday to rubber-stamp their places in the fillies’ Classic over the Rowley Mile next weekend. Qabala leapt to the head of the ante-post market with an impressive victory over her stablemate in the G3 Nell Gwyn S. at Newmarket’s Craven meeting, in the hands of David Egan, who has the call in the Guineas and will be competing in his first Classic. Varian has booked William Buick for Mot Juste while Andrea Atzeni serves his riding ban.

“Having come through their work from yesterday morning very well, we are delighted to confirm that Qabala and Mot Juste are very much on course to run in the 1000 Guineas next weekend,” the Newmarket trainer said on his website. “David Egan will maintain his partnership with the G3 Nell Gwyn winner Qabala in the Guineas–and with Andrea Atzeni suspended for the meeting, we are very pleased to be able to secure William Buick to partner Mot Juste. Runner-up in the Nell Gwyn, Mot Juste was ridden by William when winning the G3 Oh So Sharp S. at the track as a 2-year-old.”
