Race 9 Wanganui

Dodgems out wide at the top of the straight in the last.

This mad scramble for the outside fence is full of high risk & was so close in that race to things not ending well, the safety committee might need to think about how to prevent a disaster from happening.

What do others think?

Following the running of Race 9 several riders approached Stewards with concerns regarding the field heading to the outside fence in search of better footing when there is insufficient room for all horses to do so safely and asked for consideration to be given that an outside rail be placed between the 500 metres and 350 metres at future meetings.

I wonder if the riders have considered taking some personal responsibility for the safety of themselves, their colleagues and the owners' horses - by  undertaking in future not to angle their mounts out so sharply - dictating the paths of others and allowing little chance for them to adjust their course or pace safely ...

The head-on coverage was pretty awful ...

Interestingly they've decided to insert a rail from the corrugated iron fence to the outside fence which will negate the no rail gap.  What took them so long?

That'll be out 1M to the birdcage, so let's hope the totally unfair winter racing there becomes a thing of the past.  One fast lane on the outside fence does not a race make.

No Jess, apparently no riders were charged, admonished, wrist slapped or made to downtrow in the Jocks room.

It was a superb bit of no holds barred competitive riding and you should get your eyes tested if you thought otherwise!
