Pedro Venegas has been promoted to stallion manager at Gainesway Farm following the retirement of Carl Buckler, Sr., Gainesway announced Wednesday. A native of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, Venegas began as a stallion groom at Gainesway in 2010 and quickly worked his way up to stallion assistant manager.

“I am excited about the level of care our stallions will receive under Pedro’s direction,” said Antony Beck, President of Gainesway Farm. “Pedro has been a valued member of our team for almost a decade. He has worked closely with Carl Buckler, Sr. as Tapit’s groom and as stallion assistant manager. Pedro’s

work ethic and passion for our stallions is second to none. When Carl announced his retirement, Pedro was the obvious choice to continue to uphold our expectations for our stallion roster.”

Venegas started with polo ponies at Las Anitas Polo Club in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, before traveling to Lexington to work with Guy Wildenstein’s Les Diables Bleus polo team for the 1989 U.S. Open. While there, Venegas met Bruce Hundley and was soon working at Saxony Farm, rising to the position of general manager of the farm from 2004-2010.

“Carl taught me quite a lot about the breeding shed,” said Venegas. “I like challenges and am looking forward to using the lessons I learned from Carl to continue to build upon the Gainesway legacy.”
