Kinder surprise

Girgarre training stalwart Brenda Kinder won’t be surprised if Zipping Spud scores at Shepparton tonight.

However, she does have a few concerns with her March 2016 Fernando Bale x Tricky Rose sprinter who is contesting his 80th race start.

“He’s a very excitable dog and is in a later race,” Kinder said. “And he hasn’t been jumping so well from the new boxes here.”

Kinder added that Zipping Spud, who will exit from box one, “likes to get off the fence a bit and into the centre of the track”.

“I don’t think he’s any certainty, but he chases really hard and can run reasonable time,” she said. “But I think the ‘check’, Blazin’ Ruby (Box 2), is the one to beat.”

Owned by the 10-member Roller Coaster Racing – SPUD syndicate, Zipping Spud has notched nine wins (with 11 seconds and 15 thirds) from 79 starts. He’s also won two races in five starts from the ‘red’ alley.

“The syndicate purchased him when he was around two and a half and he’s proven a good buy,” Kinder said.

Zipping Spud is expert form analyst The Watchdog’s ‘Best Bet’ on the 12-race program and is quoted at $2.60F. He will line up in Race 9 Box 1 at 9.45pm.

The Watchdog says: Showed great speed when placed here and he should find this event a lot easier.
