curious
Someone mentioned it but doesn't look like much of an issue this year with the restrictions in place.
Chief Stipe
Bit early Curious. Mild Autumn so far. The Flu has a distinct seasonal pattern related to temperature and humidity. Unlike the odd statement from the MOH that kids with Covid-19 don't infect adults the flu does.
Weasel
all fair enough... but one upside of the 'distancing and hand-washing' mantra is the huge reduction in exchange of germs of all kinds in and across all age groups. Grandads not being infected by their kids/grandkids etc ...leads to less pressure on health system/resources etc ...I predict fewer Kiwis will die of influenza this year than any single year in the last 20-25 years Edited April 22, 2020 by Weasel
Chief Stipe
I'm not so optimistic. A delayed onset of the flu season due to a very mild autumn so far, an interrupted vaccination programme due to the lockdown and the subsequent unavailability of primary care namely GP's. I return to school for children largely from vulnerable socioeconomic groups. Fingers crossed that a Covid-19 infection bounce doesn't coincide with the eventual emergence of the flu. Some of the things that have been said by the Govenrment and the MOH in the last few days are worrying.
